#111: That Went Rather Well
Yvette said “I thought that went rather well”
Joshua said“Excellent actually, got any more?”
Yvette said “As a matter of fact I do. Follow the yellow brick road.”
Joshua had been sitting on a bus stop bench. He stood up, picked up his staff and boarded his tiny electric unicycle. A yellow brick road appeared before his augmented eyes. It stretched before him into the distance. He followed it.
He was tickled with his new means of transportation. It certainly beat walking. He’d seen a video of a small electric unicycle on the internet and had decided that it would be just the thing. He’d made one with SSmoke although his had several refinements. Unlimited range for example, and higher speed if need be.
He thought that the tiny unicycle enhanced his image as a magician. He tipped the brim of his hat, leaned forward…and glided away. His trench coat barely skimming the surface. He glided as silently as a ghost down the walkway. People who saw him were initially surprised, then smiled when he waved and breezed past. He made no more sound in his passing than a bicycle…perhaps less. He was MUCH less intimidating to pedestrians than a bicyclist.
After traveling a few minutes.
Yvette said “This will do. There’s a bush that you can get behind”
Joshua glided behind the bush. He was concealed from the casual eye. He stopped his unicycle and held out his open hand.
Smoke began to billow from his hand. A small tornado appeared. The tiny twister gradually changed into a small, if somewhat chubby, dragon. The little dragon took to the air…and vanished from sight. Joshua stepped back onto his unicycle and resumed rolling down the sidewalk. The whole process had taken a very few minutes.
Near the base of a FlyWay, up among the beams, Blossom Cameron Herbert woke up. This was the safest place she had found lately. She had almost been raped the other day and she was terrified. She did NOT want it to happen again.
Running away from home hadn’t been such a great idea. Her expectations weren’t matching reality. True, her mother’s boyfriend had abused her frequently, but when she was living with here mother she could steal her mother’s birth control pills. She’d also had access to a bathroom and a bed….and they fed her.
She hadn’t realized that things can always get worse… she’d ran away from home and they had. She rolled over carefully on the top of the beam. It was at least fourteen foot to the cement below and she didn’t want to fall off. .
Falling that far would hurt.
What was this, near her elbow, that she’d almost knocked over the side? She picked it up and examined it. It was necklace. A beautiful golden necklace with a lovely gemstone pendant. She’d not noticed it being there when she went to sleep. Of course it was hard to see and she was frightened and in a rush when she found this place. She’d scrambled up here like a monkey in the dark. Perhaps someone else had used it as a refuge and left it behind.
She found a good secure spot in a corner and snuggled up against the wall. She wasn’t likely to fall off from here, or be seen from below. Her hair was a mess. She combed it back with her fingers as best she could and put necklace over her head. Why not?
Music. She heard music. Pretty music...peaceful music. She sat there for the longest time. Drifting with the music.
At some point she noticed that there were pictures. It had started out very subtle with understated color...then the color had changed to patterns and the patterns had changed to pictures...and now she was watching a video.
It was an odd video. It showed a young girl dressed in rags, much like herself and strange little dragon. It was a marvelous creature. The girl could seemingly ask for anything she wanted. The little dragon would lay an egg and whatever it was that she had wanted would hatch from that egg...except for food.
The dragon looked remarkably like the dragon that was standing right beside her. She hadn’t noticed it until just now.
