#14: Shelby Pried The Door Open
Shelby had practiced, exhaustively using the exoskeleton, the sword and shield. Shelby was now their master.
"Ok...are we ready?” Shelby asked.
"We’re ready” the voice said.
Shelby carefully pried the door open. The door was in a lower (non flooded thankfully) sub-sub- basement of the Temple. The VC had dug along one of it’s walls apparently not realizing that it was part of a building. Perhaps they thought it was indigenous rock. It might have been CARVED from indigenous rock on the inside. The temple was the product of some fairly serious skill-sets.
"Point swarm...away.” Shelby muttered to himself. "Give em about ten yards head start.”
What would one day be called cybernetic drones preceded Shelby’s by a dozen or so yards. They looked like dragon flies.
Progress was initially uneventful. They were in an unused portion of the tunnels, it was pitch black. Shelby could see just fine. He moved forward silently with death on his mind.
According to what he had overheard they had been ambushed very near the Cambodian border. He’d heard talk about something called the Iron Triangle. He’d heard rumors that the tunnels ran all the way to Saigon. Maybe he wouldn’t have to go that far before finding an escape point. Maybe he wouldn’t have to kill too many people while doing so. Didn’t matter really. He was willing to do whatever it took.
They should NOT have tortured his buddies to death.
