#121: The Tour
Reggie and Mary were riding mono-wheels, they thought it was SO cool. The were accompanying Marc TwoFeathers on his daily patrol. Marc took one half of the Island...Captain took the other. Every other day they switched halves.
“Oh HI! Officer Marc. Who’s your friends?” a voice from nowhere asked. Mary turned her head from side to side. She noticed Reggie looking up. She followed his gaze to see a small boy...floating in the air.
“Hi Cody.” Marc said gently. There was a note of fondness in his voice “ This is Reggie and Mary. They’re visiting.”
Cody waved...Reggie and Mary, bemused, waved back. A flying boy?
Imagine that.
Cody tagged along as Marc continued his patrol then peeled off and went back when he got too far away from his house. Other children did the same thing. At various points they was joined by children of all ages. At various points the children had reached their boundaries peeled off and went home. Marc knew them all by name.
“This is Flint Island” Marc told them with obvious pride.
“The home of the lost boys” Mary said awe. All of the children flew, and girls.
“Ain’t nothing lost about ‘em. They can fly because of the SSmoke. “ Marc said. “the kids like to fly.”
“To fly.” Reggie ...his mind, she was boggled. “I can relate. I always wanted to do the same thing was I was that age.”
Mary remained silent....Boys! Secretly though, she had also.
“The smoke is very handy” Marc said. Then he explained it in greater detail.
“Wow.” Reggie said when Marc was done. The SoulStone would take some getting used to.
“Yeah...just Wow.” Mary echoed him.
Marc escorted the couple back to their boat. “Ya’ll might want to rest up a bit...take a nap maybe? The Dragon Lady has a blow-out planned in your honor, for later.“
“Thank you.” Mary said...she looked a little bit peaked.
“A dragon will escort you to the hall....about eightish” Marc said.
They both nodded. Reggie was out on his feet too. They’d seen a lot and done a lot in the last few hours. A nap wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
“A NAP!” Mary scolded him...then grinned. Well..they’d be in bed...probably.
Later,
at the banquet hall
It was a nice party. The food was good. The “trade goods” that Reggie and Mary had brought was well received. Everyone there was a drinker and they all liked whisky.
Toward the end...
“Reggie ...Mary. We’re glad you stopped by. Feel free to stay as long as you want. You’ve got a place here if you want it. “ The Dragon Lady toasted them.
“As a small token of our appreciation we have something for you. It’s no match for this booze but ....” she nodded...two dragon avatars flew into the room carrying dragon tear pendants. One for Reggie, one for Mary.
“Wear them in good health” The dragon lady said. “I understand that you’ve been briefed?”
Reggie and Mary nodded.
“I’m going to be able to fly....” Reggie breathed..
Mary kicked him under the table.
“Wheeeeeeee!!!!!... I can fly!!!”
The Maggi, less Josh, smiled, Sat back and enjoyed the fine whisky. They smiled at the sounds of enjoyment and enthusiasm. Their guests, escorted by Josh and a veritable swarm of children were flying about the inside of the dome like a flock of birds....happy as larks.
