Chapter 33: Look....in the sky!
. ............................................................................................................................................................................

Minutes later Lamar approached Sharon. Berg was returning to his quarters and the command group was in shock. A break had been declared and calls of nature were being answered. Food was being brought in by the staff and everyone was mostly just milling around and talking.
“That was an excellent job there ma’am’ “ said Lamar touching his finger to his forehead, as if tipping a hat.

Sharon looked up at the big Texan and frowned. “That poor, poor boy.”

“Boy?” enquired Lamar “He’s a full grown Berserker. You’d be shocked I’m sure at what he’s been through”.

Sharon stared off into the distance. Some had called such an expression a thousand yard stare, “ I doubt that Captain. It takes a lot to shock me now days”

She shivered a bit and looked the Texan square in the eye. “How may I help you?”

Lamar grinned. “Nothing much gets past you does it? Direct and to the point too. I like that. Your talents and skills are being wasted in the kitchen. I want you to act as a liaison dealing with the Trolls. Do whatever you think best. Draft whomever and whatever you think you need to do the job. You define the job. If you get any static take what steps you deem necessary or refer the problem to me. You really impressed me these last few hours. You have my complete support.”

With that he “tipped his hat’ to her once more and wandered off.

Sharon stood as if rooted in place for a moment, temporarily stunned. Slowly a smile appeared on her face.

In the kitchen one of the Mormon girls had been helping the cook. She was looking at the dwindling store of coffee in dismay. She turned to one of the KidKin who was patiently waiting for her to make another pot of the black brew.

"Dusty" she complained " I don't know what we are going to do. We're getting dangerously close to running out of coffee. When it's all gone we're going to be in troubeeeeeeeeel This place practically runs on coffee."

Dusty nodded in wonder. He didn't say much but he didn't see a real problem. After he got his coffee he wandered outside to find one of his dragon buddies.

”Olaf" he said...and then he expressed his concerns.

Olaf the dragon didn't say much either but then he seldom did. Olaf wasn't much of a talker. After the conversation was over Olaf waited a bit while Dusty left and returned with a small package. Dusty handed the package to Olaf and stood back.

The dragon launched . Dusty stood watching as Olaf flew out of sight. The dragon took the small package of coffee beans to the ARK.

Meanwhile the command group had continued their planning session far into the night and on into the next day. Eventually a decision was reached and the appropriate 'volunteers' were contacted. Some of whom were surprised to learn that they had volunteered, but no one complained.

Much

Orders were given and supplies were gathered. Suddenly all that was left to do was wait for everyone and everything involved to get there. They tried to get some rest.

After dark, several dragons arrived carrying large packages. They met Dusty who guided them into the kitchen. They left the packages and silently departed. This started a pattern. After that, every few days, a small group of dragons would leave several hundred pounds of coffee beans at the kitchen. They would then depart without a word of explanation.

The current big question was: how to transport one each Troll to the Demon-Camp quickly and quietly. He’d arrived in a chariot but the ride had been a nightmare, better to have walked. It had been very difficult everywhere except on the Slipneir road and on the central plains. In the mountainous regions of this part of the mesa a chariot wasn’t very useful.

Several methods were discussed and one was settled on. A practice run was enacted successfully. The Troll survived. A very shook up Troll but a live one said with quivering voice. "Gee...that was f' f' fuunn. Can I do it again?"

Yes he could. They strapped him in again and away they all went.
