#113: Old OIL Change

Tommy was trying hard to control his excitement. It had been a long time since he had gone out to eat with his parents. He was so happy that they weren’t fighting any longer. Odd how his father was so much calmer now that he didn’t go to work every day. Tommy would have to think about that.

A guy met them at the door then escorted them to a table. Nice guy even if he did dress silly and talk funny. He helped Tommy with his chair.

“Would you like something to drink? Your server will be along shortly” the man said and handed them each a drink menu. Tommy felt all grown up since he had one to himself, he didn’t know how to read yet but the menu had pictures.

His mother said to his father“Why don't you go ahead and have a few beers if you like.”

His father seemed surprised at that...then grateful. “I believe I will. I’ll take the number 6 craft beer. Old Oil Change. I like ‘em dark.”

“Tommy and I will have a soft drink.” his mother said.

“I’ll take ROOT beer” Tommy pointed out. “I want a dark one TOO!”

The funny dressed man who talked funny too showed no emotion as he took their drink orders. He walked away.

After a little while the server arrived with their drinks..

“My name is Thelma and I’ll be your server today. Have you had time to look at your menu’s?” she asked.

Tommy was so thrilled. His family was together, happy and eating out. Life was good. He went to sleep before he finished his meal.
