#59 -Interlude : Lotta Water
Not only was it melting but it was connected to other worlds by portals. The vast amounts of incoming water from the other worlds encountered ice, snow and the frigid seas of the antarctic causing a LOT fog. A LOT of new water vapor was added to earth’s atmosphere
It rained.
It rained and it rained.
The low lying areas flooded immediately then the water just got deeper. Open water absorbs more solar heat than just about anything, ...... so the planet warmed. The Arctic Ice melted and it turned out that the scientists were wrong. Instead of shutting down the Thermohaline circulation system all the fresh water from the melting ice ramped it up by orders of magnitude. No longer did it move a mere one hundred times the flow of the Amazon River. Now it was much, much more.
There were also atmospheric rivers. Many of them. They continued to transport zillions of acre-feet of water. Vast amounts of water vapor moved horizontally from the oceans across the continents where it would cool, turn to rain and fall in unending torrents. The already flooded rivers, already beyond any fevered imagination of flood stage, continued to rise.
The flow of the Missouri, the Mississippi, the Ohio, and the Tennessee Rivers had been off the charts for months. The Mississippi river had widened into a bay. Flood stages had been surpassed to a ridiculous extent. All the ancient flood plains were now flooded.
River shipping had come to a halt a long time ago. It wasn’t possible to operate the barges safely any longer.
More worrisome, not only the rivers were in flood but the Sea Level was rising. This was un-possible since the water for the rain came from the Sea. It should have remained in balance.
It wasn’t.
New Orleans finally noticed something was amiss when the water reached the tops of it’s levies. Panic ensued. It’s city council cried for help. Oddly enough no one else cared. City management of other cities hadn’t been quite as drunk as the city council of New Orleans and had already noticed the rising water. All of the coastal cities had discovered that they all had problems of their own. They were all in deep kimchee. A rising tide floats all boats and drowns all coastal cities equally.
With each high tide the waters got deeper. People were leaving in droves. They left the Coasts in general and Florida in particular as quickly as they could, IF they could. If not they tried to acquire boats, legally or otherwise. If not they drowned. In an impossibly short time, Florida disappeared.
Constant, thick, impenetrable fog. It completely obscured everything poleward from latitude 25 for a time, then the fog free area slowly crept further north.
Those few governments that survived the initial flooding were severely hampered by the lack of visibility. The citizens were mostly victims. They had no clue.
The News Media persisted in talking about something else...ANYTHING else.

it's hard to tell what’s true or when they are lying isn’t it? It seems that they are more interested in influencing public opinion than they are reporting the facts.

Guess Denver finally got to be a real capital.. Beach front property at Amarillo. And Tahoe Jet ski capital of the world. All those beachfront people now trying to become Hillbillies. No more flatlanders allowed. As the Banana Slug, just slowly drifts onward.
Palo Duro Canyon isn't all that far from Amarillo...ten or twenty miles or so. It'd be full of water.
Impressive. A holocaust vision never thought of before. It's a good thing this is fiction. Very entertaining.
There came the endless rain that caught the incredulous humanity by surprise ... life on the way to extinction ... Florida has disappeared. What could happen to the government of Cuba? I will imagine it ...
