The List [flash fiction]

in #fiction7 years ago

Rope
Chain
Butcher knife

Gerald stared at the list. The penmanship was superb. He had written each item down with love and care, pondering the intent and purpose of the objects with each pen stroke. He leaned back in the chair and thought of her—the red kitchen walls looked like they were bathed in blood. Soon, with these implements, things would be made right, whole, and pure.

The rope. He would use it to tie her up. Not too firm but not too loose.

The chain. That would come after the rope, around her neck.

Butcher knife. The final piece.

Gerald realized he forgot something, completely consumed with the other items.

Lamb, he scribbled on the paper.

And potatoes.

He would tie her up and make her watch. An exquisite dinner come to life. She would have no choice in the matter. No working on her computer at the dinner table like usual. Tonight would mark their three year anniversary and he would be her world. A scrumptious feast she couldn’t resist.

Dessert? The rope and chain would stay on for that.

This piece is a 5 minute freewrite (with a few small rounds of editing) for the grocery list prompt.

ERMAGERD. That BDSM is real though. XD I didn't know where any of that was going, which I think was pretty smart on your part!

Have to keep people like you on your toes, narrows eyes.
Thanks @caleblailmusik :)

What do you mean "people like you?" narrowers eyes
And you're welcome @cizzo!

Wow, intense stuff. I can't help but enjoy anything with a Gerald in it, the name just sounds nice to me, but furthermore this piece was as deceptive as it was... insightful as to the nature of the protagonist.

Who reads their own handwriting and thinks it's "superb"? The same person who would be the dominant one in... this kind of relationship. That is, assuming he's not really insane. The part about making the kitchen pure... Well, one has to wonder!

Quite enjoyable reading, @cizzo. Makes me regret not having more time or a longer attention span to stay on top of your posts.

I wanted to play with expectations in this short piece, and I'm glad that came across as being a bit deceptive.

Really like your thoughts on it and glad you enjoyed it @steemedchitty

Sometimes it's just luck of the draw when things are posted and when we have time for a gander.
