"Life there is very hard. We were all initially killed by hunger and malaria. Some of my men died at sea. Some survived but instead died from melting fire (lava) from the top of Jaboi mountain."

Brahim Naga told the beginning of his adventure to Mat Guci after the two of them let go of longing. Accompanied by a stack of cashew nuts, several jamblang stalks, and keranji fruits. Mat Guci also brought a bunch of young coconut and bananas and several cashew leaves. All of this was picked up by Mat Guci from the slopes of the Seulawah hill which was only separated by a valley from the slopes of Lamuria.

"So how can your father's story survive? Are there no one's father's survivors? "Mat Guci asked while chewing bananas with enthusiasm. He was so happy to be able to meet the father who had left him for the past five years on the slopes of Lemur.

Brahim Naga took a deep breath. Lean your back against the base. His eyes stared at the clump of black clouds that covered Weh Island far away. The fingers of his hand that looked big grabbed the young coconut bunches. He turned one of the coconuts apart from the bunches.

"Do you have a machete?" Asked Brahim Naga.

Mat Guci then rushed down the hill where they were relaxing. Down the slopes of the grassland and disappear behind the shrubs. The boy soon returned by holding a machete with a bent end.

"This is daddy. Be careful, this machete is very sharp. I made this father."

"You dont joke. Who taught you to make these sharp and light machetes?"

"Brother Pang Amin. He is a pande from Indrapurwa. Pang Amin called him Nek. Every single full moon, he stopped by Lamuri to sell his homemade machetes. I met the man at Pang Amin's house," Mat Guci said.

Mat Guci was so fascinated with the various tools brought by Pang Amin's brother. But what made Mat Guci try hard to learn to make machetes while watching a small knife that had a pointed edge. "He called it rencong. It was the first time I saw a weapon that could be hidden behind a shirt without the other person knowing it. Brother Pang Amin has a pair of rencong. The rencong has a length of one cubicle, and the partner is only half," said Mat Guci again.

"Hmm ... Rencong? I became interested in that thing? Does Pang Amin have it?"

"I don't know Daddy. But a few nights ago, I had heard Nek would award Pang Amin a pair of heirloom rencong made with special iron and mixed with poison."

Brahim Naga just stopped hearing this. The attention of Brahim Naga became focused on the knife called the rencong. Almost he forgot his goal of returning to Lamuria.

"Hmmm ... Rencong ... I want to see what it looks like," Brahim Naga say to himself. (to be continue...)

Brahim Naga menarik nafas panjang.

“Apa kau memiliki parang?” Tanya Brahim Naga.

Mat Guci kemudian bergegas menuruni bukit tempat mereka asyik bersantai.

“Hmmm… Rencong.. Aku ingin melihat seperti apa benda itu,” batin Brahim Naga. (bersambung)
