Once her father went to heaven.
She received an inheritance check with digits of seven.
She moved to a bright yellow house in Pacific Grove by the sea.
It had dining room views of the ocean for tea.
She painted a black and grey landscape of a lighthouse and tree.
Thinking of her lover James while outlining the sea.
Her canvas became wet with salty tears.
As she thought of her lover James she was awash in fears.
What if he never came back on the military boat?
She thought of this possibility with a lump in her throat.
With a war underway and sketchy communication.
Not a day went by without her heart giving a palpation.
