My Beautiful Wife's 40th Birthday🎂: 5 Days in a Festival Kind of Way

in #festival6 years ago

We met at a Festival, we got Married at a Festival and we Birthday like life is a Festival...

Like every good party, we gave it a name: Jessi's Enchanted Forest Birthday Campout

We started out by walking the property to find the right spot to throw a party. We have this big valley and thought we could do it there, the soundsystems would be muffled for the neighbors. It's a deep valley and being that both Jess and I aren't very good at delegating... we're so bad, we didn't eben invite anyone to come early to help us set up!!!!

So we set it up in the forest above the valley, and it's a good thing we did because there was a lot of back and forth getting all we needed for the outdoor kitchen! It would have been way too much work going up and down our treacherous path...

We did what we could the week before. It's a little slow with a threenager but we also take time to play... I'd feel bad working all the time!

Digging a pit in this rocky ground was lots of fun...

Expecting rain the whole weekend we decided to tarp high up over the fire and the dance floor:

You think it's high enough for a fire?

And Friday came, the day my queen's Festival Birthday started... with that came a thunder storm that lasted all day. So with our threenager at my side, my wife running errands and the cats and dogs dropping from the skies we didn't do all that much setting up. I concentrated on cleaning up our own living space and getting that ready for a relative who has a hard time seeing. I leveled the ground in front of our RV (a bit) and decluttered the inside to lend them our bed for the weekend.

When we finally made it back to the festival site, we saw that the storm had taken one of my two tarps down, ripped the corners right off and put a hole in the center of this pretty expensive 12 X 24 tarp... 😭!!!

I was on the verge of giving up all together.

The party will go on regardless of how much we set it up! It's just a bunch of friends camping in the woods anyway...do we really need an outdoor kitchen, a dance floor, a DJ booth and a compost toilet with privacy???

Once the night came, the rain didn't stop or slow down very much, the fire pit was full of water, all the wood was soaked!!! A few friends showed up and we were able to place everyone in dry spaces between our camper and a small pop-up camper that wasn't lived in by none human critters too much. We just partied under a small canopy without a fire.

The next morning however, everyone jumped in and made this little festy happen.

Gotta love our friends (party people) they knew what to do!

Some people came from Puerto Rico, some from California, Some from New York City, some from Delaware, and some from England!!! Don't let me fool you, we only had a maximum of 15 people each day, slowly rotating as some of our working friends and family could only come on the weekend.

Everyday we made lunch and dinner

Every once in a while, a wild dinosaur came through!

The swing was a hit

Now that the party is over, our place feels a little lonely...

It's been a rough summer, between the rain and the heat waves, it's been tough getting any work done! But we made it through this birthday party without a scratch and it was really fun.

I guess maybe with the lack of pictures. You could tell we had fun because after the first couple days, there are no more photos!

Not even a birthday cake photo!!!

Happy Birthday!!!

Awesome to do this for your wife! it will be a lasting memory and the rain will make it an even more fun story to tell.

Thank you. Her and I both worked very hard on this party, so I cannot take all the credit, but yeah it will make for a good story. It's been insane with the rain here this summer!

Happy late birthday!
Man what an awesome setup.
I miss all the fun. Lol

I'll pass it on. Thanks.... Don't worry there is more fun to come!

This was really lovely. We are share part of your story that weaves festival in... We also met at a festival and ate throwing our own this fall for our wedding.

This was a perfect reminder for me to calm down and chill out... Our friends are coming to camp on the woods and celebrate us... Anything else that happens will be perfect!!

I have been away from Steemit and really wish to catch up with your story... Hugs

That is so great to hear!!! You will have so much fun. All the hard work you put into it will be worth it and you're right all that really matters is your friends camping out to celebrate you.

I've only been writing once or twice a week lately... just so busy building our lives in this new place!

I hope you're doing well and congrats on the upcoming marriage!!!

Yeah I turned 40 in march was going to have a party but postponed it, think I might do one in September instead, love the week celebration, what a great celebration. Having a bit of a rough one myself but brighter days always follow, love to you and yours @senorcoconut and happy birthday to your beautiful wife xx xxx

Brighter days always follow in deed! I always thought 3 day festivals were just too short and this way we could see friends who work on weekends and those who have regular jobs.

Have fun in September, I hope the rough patch passes quickly and I will pass the word on to the misses. Thank you

What a wonderful birthday idea! You folks sure know how to have a truly good time. Please tell Senoracoconut I said "Happy Birthday". The weather gave you an adventure together which, though it was inconvenient, just added to the experience. The swing is awesome! Who came up with that idea? Those are "slip strips" for lack of a better term on it right?

Just told her, she said thank you with a big smile! This rain thing has been so enoying this summer but it is an experience for sure.

So that swing was made with a large palette and anpiece of plywood that was rescued from the set of some TV show. The black strips are non-slip like on a skate board. Very fun swing! The idea came from a friend of ours who built it while on LSD...

I figured there was a story with the swing! I like it a lot.

Crazy thing is that he tried to use a chainsaw!!! I said no way, even if you can handle your acid like a pro... you're not using a chainsaw!

What a lovely birthday festival, even with the rain. It looks like everyone enjoyed themselves, even the dinosaur!

But my favorite was the opening photo with the flower hanging...

Ah thank you, yea it was pretty amazing! The dinosaur was a bit sad once everyone had left though... he had a blast too and he saw lots of his little people friends and cousins!

Here's the miss's Archway to her 40's

I love that you write about love and celebrating each other! This little festival looks amazing. Would have loved to join in! Ha ha ha! Glad you all had a good time and that you got lost in the moment and stopped taking photos. Cheers, Aimee

Thanks Aimee, talking about gettin lost in the moment. Just realized I have so many replies to answer and forgot.

For sure we like to take time celebrating eachother!

Thank you

I'm in the same boat with getting behind on replies....

Ah, how gorgeous. Love party people - they sure know how to pretty a place up. Love it. Love the dinosaur that came through!!! So cute. Glad you had a good time. Know what you mean about that loneliness when everyone goes home...

Yeah... that loneliness is awefull but around here it doesn't last very long. Ee had my in laws a couple days after the party, than my own parents and soon after all those lovely people were gone, my brother showed up with his new friend!!!

I guess there's a reason why we want to have this community setting on our homestead.

Thanks for the lovely words
