The Origin of #FeatheredFriday
In the beginning it was called #eaglefriday because of this...
I had a gif file I made from a half dozen shots. I remember it was the day I picked up my Tamron 150-600mm lens. The shots weren't great but when I put them together in a gif the Eagle seemed to do a barrel roll, and I thought to myself: TGIF... Thank God It's Friday!
Also, I love that old song Stormy Monday which has the words "the Eagle flies on Friday" and this got me thinking... I made a post announcing #EagleFriday and to my surprise, several people joined in and we ran with it for perhaps five weeks? One of the people who really got into it was my good friend @melinda010100. We've been friends on several different sites over the years. One day we were having a chat online and it went something like this:
Melinda: I might be running out of Eagles soon...
Keith: Yeah, me too...
We both remembered a wonderful photographer named Bev Brown who ran something called Feathered Friends on the defunct website Tsū. It was at this point that Melinda suggested the name change to #FeatheredFriday which would open the challenge up for everyone to join. That was genius!
@melinda010100's contributions to FeatheredFriday went way beyond coming up with the name, she promoted the hell out of it and told everyone she knows, and she knows a lot of people! She also contributed some of the finest photos week after week, and curated hundreds of posts, mine and those from all the other #featheredfriday fans.
So I want to thank Melinda for keeping this tag alive in whatever fashion she is able.
Thanks for putting together all that history! It has been a journey! And thanks, too, for your kind words. I hope we can keep FF going. I love seeing all the bird photos from around the world!
I love Melinda's bird photos. She is a bonafide bird whisper and Keith I so remember those eagle shots:) They were amazing:)

I wanted everyone to know you have had at least as much to do with this as I have. All I really do is take photos, I'm not much of a curator. You are one of the best curators on Steem. That in itself is a very big deal.
Now if only my vote was a bit bigger! 😉
It's not just about the size of a vote. All I ever did was try to resteem every post and give them all my big one-cent-vote. That's not really the intelligent way to do it.
You turned it into a very successful tag.

Looking at your bird photographs prompted me to give it a go. It is far from easy but I feel that I am getting some better results lately.

Thanks Keith, it was a bit of fun. I got a few 'actual' real birds today at the lake. They are still tricky to photograph for me but I'm getting better at it.

I am hopelessly devoted to the tag, and I hope I can take more pictures to post, but I really hope you're not leaving! It won't be the same without you! You're in my slice of the world, for one thing. And I love seeing your posts. I've missed them while you've been away.

It's rather nice the share a history like this with special friends @keithboone and I agree with all you have said about our mutual friend @melinda010100 She is such a wonderful asset to Steemit and feathered Friday couldn't be in better hands.
