The Enemy and its Minions
We listen every day to people telling us who we should fear. These people are called "Opinion Leaders." But why do we so easily adopt leaders? Because they tell us what we want to hear.
We want so desperately to be validated in our own minds that we allow other people to fill in the blank spaces with persuasive, yet mostly false arguments. President Franklin D. Roosevelt at his first Inaugural address in March of 1933, in the depths of the Great Depression, didn't point out some enemy, he told the truth:
So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is...fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and of vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. And I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.
We as a species, fear the unknown. It's hardwired into our brains as a survival instinct. There are some aberrations, or mutants, that don't have this fear. Somewhere in our history, these people realized they could gain power and keep it by sowing discord, confusion, hatred, bigotry, discrimination, terror, and learned helplessness among the masses.
##The enemy, Fear, has minions:
Pundits, talking heads, media personalities, news reporters, politicians, bureaucrats, priests, ministers, rabbis, imams, as opinion leaders, point their fingers, not at our own ignorance as the source of our fears, but at other people, especially other people who are as powerless as ourselves, but definitely not at the masters behind the curtain who sign their paychecks. They use words like "Evil" as a substitute for complicated, reasonable explanations for aberrant behavior.
The masters make weapons of mass destruction, use them once, then pay their minions to make up scenarios in perpetuity, to keep the masses under their thumbs. This, in every nation around the world. But the people are beginning to wake up.
It seems like everywhere I look I see fear and division.
