A Letter To Fathers...

A better world, society and community is something every noble human desires and i make progressive steps in my capacity to achieve this in very small and unobvious ways.
From personal observation, i realize that most of the problems we face as a people have their roots in the home and in the formative lives of people which is greatly influenced by how they were raised. From self esteem issues to violence, fear to depression or suicidal tendencies, when you trace these to the roots, it most times leads to the home and solidifies the notion that says that "Charity starts at home".

The Family as Baseline

The Family is said to be the basic component of the society, that means everyone you see today came from the union of two other people, whether they choose to stay together does not change this fact. That means our community is made up families as its base and foundation, ths goes to say that whoever at any point of this pyramid is affected by the base which is family which i also referred to as home in the previous paragraph. For the sake of this write up, i would be focusing on the family as the basic source of influence, even though i acknowldge other sources like school, peer groups, etc.

Now, streamlining down, we realize that the family is structured in such a way that the father has a cardinal role to play irrespective of your opinions about gender [even though i don't intend to offend anyone], we atleast agree that the Father has a fundamental role of leadership to the family. This makes him not the most important individual but an important one anyways, and lapses and failures from this role has been the bane and cause of so many fundamental problems because of the need of proper leadership in the life of every human being especially during formative years.
the failure of fathers have been a concern to me and is observed to be a large contributor to the inbalance we face in our contemporary society and i believe this is due to lack of understanding of the importance of taking this responsibilities seriously. The abusive father might have never known that his action was breeding a serial killer apart from just mistreating his wife, or the very busy father never knew that his daughter was growing with a low self esteem as a result of lack of attention.

i just believe that solving big problems starts from tackling the simplest most obviousest challenge, we might not have all the answers or solutions but the very little changes we can make wouldcausean adjustment we never imagined. So if you're already a father, why not close earlier today and spend some time with your son and ask about his fears or with your daughther and tell her how special she is and how much you love her, that might just be the remedy to all the problems right now.
