Meanwhile, in the House of Dior decide to repeat the proposal and this time in 1989, Ferre agrees. It was a sensation! For the first time a foreigner was invited to the famous house. Since Marco Bueno had already been removed, Gianfranco had already urgently entered a new domain. Ferre went and slept in the workshops, creating his first collection of haute couture for the legendary brand. Seamstresses and suppliers were falling from their requirements, he did not let anyone relax. Ferre knew it was his Austerlitz and he needed only victory. And this day has come. He, as always, was flawlessly dressed, nothing betrayed his excitement and only when the last model had left the podium, the heart froze in anticipation of the reaction of the public. And suddenly he heard: "Dior is alive, he is back!" - it was screamed 90-year-old Margaret Carre, the right hand of Christian Dior. But how often it happens with talented works, the collection caused diametrically opposed responses. On the one hand, the catwalk was marked by the prestigious "Golden Thimble" award, which previously was given only to the French. With another authoritative critic of fashion Susie Menkes called the collection an artistic failure. And Pierre Berge Yves Saint Laurent wrote: "I do not think that by opening the door to an outsider we promote creativity in France." But all the insinuations stopped when the decrepit House of Christian Dior caught up and outrun the Laurent empire by profitability.

But he did not want to be a hostage to this style and so, keeping the traditions of Dom Dior, Gianfranco did not stop pursuing his own brand. Until 1997, he lived and worked in two cities, flying his own plane from Paris to Milan and back.

He struggled with diabetes all his life, was inclined to fullness, almost before every show he broke, eating a few packets of chocolate. And how no one understood how difficult it is to be dressed up and having problems with a figure.

On the day of the show of his latest pret-a-porter collection for Christian Dior in the Carousel de Louvre on October 8, 1996, Ferre said that Dior's years had given him a wealth of experience, love, passion and a friendly relationship with customers. But after 7 years of fruitful cooperation, he leaves the post of creative director.
