Peryton, a mythical figure - Painted in watercolours

Dear followers, and dear steemians!

Again, I love to welcome you to my blog. Today I want to show you a mythical animal, named the Peryton. Not to be confused with peritonitis, which is very illmaking. The Peryton has antlers, the paws of a deer, the body and the wings of a bird. The myth says that they lived on Atlantis, and survived when that part of the world flooded. They were able to fly away, and 'hanged around' the Pillars of Hercules. There was a prediction that Perytons would be the first sign of the fall of Rome.

Doing more research, I learned that the Peryton has a human shadow, untill it kills their first (and only) human. Afterwards it gets its own shadow.

Even more crazy: they were believed to be family of Stymphalian birds, man-eating horror-birds, with metallic, sharp feathers and bronze beaks to kill swiftly, and poisonous excrements. I do love birds, but I can understand you get a bit wary when meeting something like this. (Hmmm, inspirational...)
