Reaching out to the sweet souls of the orphan children just outside Phnom Penh , Cambodia - School field trip : Bring Christmas to the Cambodian children !
This was one of my best experiences yet in Cambodia . Reaching out to the truly "Down in the dumps" orphanage's in Cambodia.
It was heartbreaking to see all 44 orphans standing with amazed eyes , don't know who all these strangers are , torn up cloths and bear feet . I feel the chills running down my neck and the lump in my throat . You have to smile and be festive , but all you can think about are these poor souls , with literally just the cloths on their backs .

My school , Canadian International Academy of Cambodia , planned a field trip for the students to learn them about Christmas and to look out for those in need . It felt like I was just given a life lesson as well . Be grateful for what you have . As I'm writing this post I feel the emotion coming out again .
Giving to the children
We visited APCA Metabolic Children's Center just outside Phnom Penh in a village .The school bought some treats for the children and gave them new books and stationary , noodles , chips , probably their first hamburger and a lot of candy because it's festive season , everyone deserves to be spoiled. We had one of our teachers dress up like Santa Claus and I had to be a working elf and Santa's left hand man ! I had a blast with the kids . Our own students was scared at first , but soon they realized these children are the same as you and me . The children at the orphanage don't know what Christmas or Santa Claus is . They were actually scared to go sit on Santa's lap and receiving their presents . You could see the sparkle in their eyes .

The property is quite large , but there are not enough facilities or buildings to provide for these children . They have a small Church where they pray , and I actually think they are Christians , because in the Church was a banner on the wall " Jesus is Life" . there is a big empty hall with a few blankets where all the boys sleeps . They don't have a bed , mattress or pillows . The girls are in a different hall , they have beds , but there are no mattresses on the beds .
They have a small library and the children study in the Church . Here and there you will see a few skinny chickens running around . I have the utmost respect for the guy running and maintaining the orphanage .
Life lesson :
We all take basic things like a bed for granted . If someone don't upvote your post or like your Facebook status , then there is chaos in your world . These children struggle to survive , for them , that is their normal life . I've learned one thing from this field trip and that was to go on my knees and say thank you for what I have . I'm blessed to have a warm bed every night , a hot plate after the days work , a shower where I can clean myself and the list goes on.
Steemians I urge you to be thankful this festive season for the people in your life and the everyday stuff we take for granted . Be grateful for you parents , even when you can't stand them or you had a fight .
