THE PEPPER DOESN'T FALL FAR FROM THE PLANT - Monster Truck & The Speckled Kingsnake

in #family8 years ago

You’d think it would be safe for a man to send his son and wife into town…

Well, technically, it was. @mama-pepper took Monster Truck into town with her today while she had some tests run as part of her pregnancy checkup. She knew that it would be a long day, so in between tests, they went for a walk around the building to see if they could find any lizards or something. (What a great Mama!)

They only found a few bugs on their walk, but when they got back to their starting place, there is was, a beautiful Speckled Kingsnake!

@mama-pepper quickly identified it accurately and asked if Monster Truck wanted to catch it. Since this is a non-venomous snake with tiny teeth, there really wasn’t much danger here.

Still, Monster Truck, with his experience and training, quickly grabbed it behind the head so that he could control the snake and avoid even giving the snake an opportunity to bite him.

Since they were deep in the heart of the city, they decided to relocate it out into the country, which gave the rest of the @little-peppers and @papa-pepper a chance to see it.

This is one of the most beautiful snakes in the area, and it’s nice to have a family that can accurately identify them understand the role that they play in the ecosystem.

A lot of folks down here totally freak out whenever they see any snake (which can be pretty often) and far too often the poor snakes end up dead, which is technically illegal in the state of Arkansas. We certainly understand that danger of the local pit vipers (Rattlesnakes, Water Moccasins, and Copperheads) but to lump every snake into the same “seriously dangerous” category is unfortunate and leads to a lot of unnecessary fear.

This make the fourth species for us this year, with the recent Ringneck Snake and Prairie Kingsnake, and the random Brown Snake down in the pond in January. So far we haven’t seen any venomous ones this year, but the @little-peppers did an excellent job of notifying us last year when they did see one.

Like papa like son, grandpa not so much. I don't mind snakes. If they stop over for a visit, no big deal. I just don't go looking for them.

Yaeh, he kind of takes after me there...

They were safe thanks to your training. Dislocate your arm and pat your self on the back papa-pepper.

It's illegal to kill snakes in Arkansas? How progressive. Louisiana and Texas still have snake roundups :(

I would prefer if I could eat a few of the venomous ones, but relocating is fun too!

Ahhh I dont think I can have the guts to hold it myself. The boy seems to enjoy it. Arrrgghh

He knows a good time when he sees it... there's no app for that!

speckled indeed!

Reminds us of static on a television, which is usually the best chanel these days!

That is amazing, thanks for sharing!
Steem on Monster Truck !!

Brave and skilled little pepper! Love it!

That is a CUTE little snake!!
