Loss of a furry family member...

The other night my wife and I were watching some Marvel's Iron Fist on Netflix when my daughter @kellywin21 poked her head in our room and asked what all the blood was, and if someone was hurt. That of course got my wife and I out of bed quickly and we began looking around.

In front of the kitchen sink was a blood puddle about the diameter of a basketball. Then about 20 feet away was another one about the size of a softball. There were also little drips here and there.

I began going to other rooms in the house to check on my sons, and that wasn't the problem.

We also knew where our two larger dogs were. Howver, one of our dogs named Dolly was a small furry dog that is actually my Mother In-Law's dog. My Mother and Father in-law live with us and pretty much need constant care which my wife provides them.

My wife realized at some point it was likely related to Dolly.

She found Dolly in her parents' room and more blood.

My daughter Kelly and my wife began looking up 24 hour per clinics. They eventually found one and took Dolly there.

They even refused to look at Dolly until they were paid $100. They came back and said the blood was leaking from her anus and likely simply a ruptured hemorrhoid or something of that nature. They then said they'd need more money to do further tests. My wife and daughter were both angry by then and they knocked $14 off the bill and sent her home with some anti-biotics.

My wife and daughter got Dolly home and saw they had shaved her butt, but it was not leaking from her anus, but was coming from her urinary tract. It was apparent that for $100 the vet didn't really do a damn thing other than shave off some hair.

The next morning Dolly was still bleeding and my wife and daughter Kelly found a clinic they spoke to on the phone that was pretty angry to hear about what happened that night. They indicated there might be some malpractice there.

This was Tuesday.

They took dolly to this vet and they said it was almost immediately obvious what was going on. They said she had an auto-immune disease which typically comes on quick and has quick damage for dogs. It is not contagious, but it begins attacking their own body. They said that for young dogs they will sometimes try to do something about it but older dogs like Dolly (12) would likely not survive the treatment.

Dolly was put to sleep. It was the loss of a family member. I kept up beat and was supportive while my wife and other family members who were down on Tuesday.

Yesterday (Wednesday) I woke up and I was feeling very down in the dumps, and tired. I knew that the loss was suddenly impacting me. My wife was more up beat by then so it was kind of like a "tag you are it!" type thing.

I can tell you I didn't feel like writing anything yesterday. I am here today and I mostly only wanted to write an answer to a rant I saw in steemspeak about philosophy, and I thought I'd go ahead and write this post and share why I am not particularly motivated at the moment.

Thanks for letting me share.

Pets really do become part of the family. I'm sorry.

This just brought me to tears. I am sitting here crying my eyes out ... reliving our own furbaby nightmare and feeling your pain and loss and ... weeps

Somehow I am loathed to press that Upvote button, @Denmarkguy keeps telling me that upvotes right away aren't good for the algorithm or something (don't quote me, I can't remember what he said verbatim) -- but also because an Upvote feels like a "like" and I don't like what happened to your furbaby or your family at all. It's a counterintuitive thing for me in the moment! (my upvote isn't worth a whole heckuva lot yet tho')

I've got to take a step back from Social Media today. I don't know what's happening to me, but I have consistently lost my mind four times today via the net.

I didn't mean to make you cry. As to up votes. I stopped worrying about the curation reward. The amount of difference trying to game when to vote and not to vote is not worth the time delay. I simply vote on things I want to vote on. I do understand though.

I am sorry to hear that. All of that actually, from the loss to the bad behavior of the clinic. I am really feeling disgusted.

My best wishes in those moments!

I am so sorry to hear about Dolly and I would absolutely go after the after hours clinic for malpractice and theft. Unfortunately I know exactly how you feel about the loss of a beloved fur baby. HUGS

I'm very sorry and sad to hear of your furry friend's passing. At times I feel like there's something "wrong" with me for feeling more distraught when a pet leaves us than when it's a human... we have said our final farewell's to too many in recent years, and I totally relate to the frustrating midnight run to a 24-hour clinic where they offered nothing.

Sometimes the sharing of the story helps and offers a small measure of comfort. The best to you and our family...

I am super sad to hear about Dolly but thank you for sharing. I hope it helps you to discuss this as much as it helps me.

My favorite kitty is 21 years old, I have had him since he was 4 weeks old when we found him in a pile of sticks. We think his family was eaten by coyotes.

My kitty's time is coming too. We are doing everything we can to prepare for it but I will not be right when it happens. I will probably need at least a week off of work and I will not feel like steeming at that point either my friend.

Your family will be in our thoughts tonight.

Take care use guys!

Oh and we are watching Iron Fist too!

We have 4 episodes left to watch. Tend to watch about two per night.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It can hurt so freaking much when it comes to pets. Been trough it a couple of time myself and my current dog is around 11. Thanks for sharing this personal piece.

Growing up I had pets, but was in a more rural area. I do not recall ever having to put any to sleep. We had some lost to animals, some stolen (when we raised Huskies sometimes people would steal them), lost due to a neighbor shooting one, and the number one cause was getting hit by cars.

My wife on the other hand has gone through having to put them to sleep several times.
