There is a group of people who buys off your legislators, they write laws which your legislators rubber stamp and your governor signs. This group is known as the American Legislative Exchange Council.

ALEC uses model legislation to create profits and protect wrongdoing on behalf of the corporations which they are made up of. They write legislation like the Right to Work Act which is then circulated in back rooms among lobbyists and legislators where they are paid off. And all of this is considered to be perfectly legal. To add insult to injury ALEC is a non-profit, which means they are supposed to be nonpartisan.

One of the most widely reported pieces of legislation which ALEC is responsible for is the Right To Work Act, this law was written to bust up unions and take away the right of workers to organize. The right to work act has brought down wages and removed safeguards in the workplace. It also instills in the worker a sense that they have no voice, speaking out against which ever form of workplace discrimination or endangerment can lead to being fired. In right to work states employers can fire anyone without cause. The law is more accurately called the right to fire act, because what it does is create a situation where workers are considered “at will” which means that any employer keeps any worker on the payroll by the employers will alone.

The American Legislative Exchange Council has been protecting the pipeline industry with the help of Energy Transfer Partners the company which is responsible for the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The legislation is meant to strengthen protections for so called “critical infrastructure” however the designation as critical infrastructure is a stretch for pipelines which pipe oil to export terminals, their contents are not meant for domestic processing or consumption. Still the industry along with the legislators use this term to create threats against environmentally conscious citizens.

At this point there are five states I know of off the top of my head which have passed this ALEC sponsored legislation. In Louisiana, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Iowa, and Ohio the legislators have already passed these bills into law, creating a form of police intimidation at the states behest. Now in the bayous of Louisiana these draconian and unjust laws are being enforced against journalists and Indigenous Water Protectors. The pipeline protectors come law enforcement are laying false charges on these people in the name of profits. They act like it’s for the people, but the reality is that it’s purely for profits, and those profits will not be going to the people in the states which suffer the consequences of theses dangerous pipelines, rather they will be shipped off to tax havens and hidden by loopholes meant to protect oil barons in the USA.

The stated goals of ALEC are to do with limited government, but the clear goal is to constrict the behaviors of citizens while freeing industry to further exploit the natural resources of the world including the lives of humanity for the profit of a tiny cross section of the world’s population, AKA the 1%.

The purpose of this group of legislators and private industry leaders is clearly to create a perfect marriage between corporation and state. They use non-profit status to keep their autonomy and so called unbiased position. A brief glance at their members exposes companies who have financed death squads in Africa and chemical/food companies which have been cited gross human rights violations worldwide. The membership of ALEC is a who is who of globalism from military contractors to fossil fuel companies ALEC’s membership is made up of the worst of the worst global murderers and war profiteers, and that’s just the members of their sponsorship list. ALEC also boasts members in houses and senates across the country, elected officials who have abandoned the needs of the citizen’s they were elected to serve in favor of supporting global fascism in the form of a collective buying and selling of influence through this immoral group of legislators and board members. This group is a genuine threat to the social influence which our constitution was supposed to protect.

Now we see a situation where people are being subject to felonies because of the actions of a group of corrupted legislators and their corporate handlers. These people have used their power to create laws which prevent citizens from enjoying all of their constitutional rights.

The Critical Infrastructure law in Louisiana has been brought to bare on Water Protectors from the Le’au Est La Vie Camp. A local sheriff’s office has alleged that two women who were acting well within their constitutional rights were violating the state’s new ALEC sponsored law HB727. The prosecutors allege that the women were trespassing on property which the pipeline owns, however the truth of the situation is that the pipeline company failed to get a court ordered right of way, or to gain permission from the land owners in St. Martins Parish where these crimes were allegedly committed. In fact the pipeline company is violating multiple court orders by continuing to build on this stolen land. The pipeline company and law enforcement are actually trespassing, however law enforcement and prosecutors refuse to hold the fossil fuel industry accountable for their land theft.

Imagine for a moment what would happen and has happened when activists and Water Protectors have occupied PUBLIC lands, now consider the treatment law enforcement has given to the law abiding people of L’eau Est La Vie Camp. ALEC clearly knew that this fight was coming and worked in concert with legislators in Louisiana to create a legal landscape which would disenfranchise the citizens while upholding the rights of these multinational corporations to steal land from the people in St Martins Parish.

ALEC is only one of the nonprofits engaging in shaping domestic policy in the USA on behalf of the oligarchs. This creates a situation where money is given, tax relief is given, then the nonprofit uses the money received to create profits for their donors.

It is an abuse of the nonprofit system, and this exploit has been upheld by judges. By exploiting it’s nonprofit status ALEC is cast as an unbiased group acting in for the public’s good, when in fact the are a shady group which violates common decency and clouds political ethics with their efforts to create a fascist state run by military contractors, fossil fuel companies and big pharma. Again looking at the membership of ALEC shows clearly the agenda that they favor is one which ruins humanity and creates enormous profits for the companies which are actively ruining the planet.

This sort of organization is a direct threat to democracy. They are actually creating laws which make our country worse, and they are doing it with the support of politicians, industry, finance and law enforcement. This group of money grubbers needs to be held directly accountable, they need to know we are awake to their wrong doings and they need to have their ability to affect legislation removed. Any legislator who admits a relationship with this vile group needs to be voted out, and any politician which is found to be doing back room deals with ALEC needs to be recalled. At the end of the day we decide to accept this sort of corporate sponsorship of democracy, and we deserve exactly the sort of fascist legislation we get so long as we accept this sort of group in our country.
