Social Media Giants - Ranked from largest to smallest with stats !

in #facebook6 years ago (edited)

Being the Social media lackey that I am, I have no clue what social media outlets are currently controlling the market share. The most obvious one ( FaceBook ) comes to mind but there're many others and where exactly do they stack up next to each other ? Well, let's take a look.

It should be no surprise to anyone that on top of the Social Media giants we have Facebook with an astonishing 2.1 + Billion monthly users. On June 27th, 2017 , Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook had reached 2 million users.

Needing no introduction and second on our list is Youtube with 1.5 + billion users. Youtube taking second place on this list should be no surprise to anyone but here is something you may not know about Youtube. It was founded by three ex paypal employees in 2005 who less then a year later sold it to google for $ 1.65 Billion.

Instagram is third on the list of these social media giants. Instagram was first launched in 2010 and has quickly grew in popularity. It's current user base contains 800 million + users. Something that might surprise you about Instagram is that it's owned by Facebook. Talk about owning a big peace of the pie.

Twitter is up next on our list with 330 + million users to date. Twitter was created in 2006 and quickly caught on. It's members send an average of 340 million tweets daily. Each tweet can contain 140 characteristics. You must sign up to the site before you are allowed to send what is known as a tweet but anyone can read tweets without signing up.

Fifth on this list is Reddit with 250 + million users. Reddit is a social media site where you can sign up and discuss just about anything. Others read your content and will give you an upvote ( which helps keep your topic on the front page ) or a down-vote if they don't like or don't agree with your topic / comment. Anyone can read a Reddit but if you want to post or vote you must sign up to the site.

As you see Steemit and other sites like it have a long way to go to compete with these giants.

Have any of these on the list surprised you ? For me I thought Instagram would be lower on the list. I am surprised that it beat both Reddit and Twitter. Give your opinions below in the comment section.

Social media do have advantages and disadvantages so we should use it in a proper way and proper time as well.

I couldn't agree more - Too much social media is not a good thing.

a very good heads up as regards my negligence towards the social media platforms..a good job anyways brief and concise thanks for this came in handy

Your welcome - has any of the list surprised you ? I would have thought Reddit was bigger then Instagram.

Showing my age here, but what ever happened to MySpace?

I was never apart of MySpace but a short search I did shows it might be making a comeback. At one point it was the leading Social Media network. It renamed itself to Myspace with a small s instead of S for some reason. The downfall came in part because Facebook with a more user friendly layout was on the rise and because the owners who bought MySpace added adds to the site. In an odd twist years later Facebook has done the same ( placed adds on its site ) and its hold on the social media networks is strong.

MySpace sold for $580 million in 2007 by 2013it was valued at $12 Billion. 2011 came around and it once again sold but this time for much less ... 35 million.

Current ownership of Myspace belongs to Specific Media LLC and pop music singer and actor Justin Timberlake.

Thank you !

Now time for steemit community

I think so to. It's only a matter of time before the current giants will need to adjust or be left behind.
