Why I'm convincing everyone i know to ditch Facebook and join steem. And why you should too.

I can't be the only person who sees the nose dive Facebook has made recently. The content quality has been spiraling out of control for a few years now, but recently we've hit lows that have not only made me delete my Facebook account, but really made me question society as a whole. We have gone to dark places of racism, intolerance, half truths and fake news. And the biggest problem, it's that people are eating this stuff up and basing their lives on it. People are becoming violent based on articles that aren't true. And Facebook seems to be encouraging it. We are coming to a point where we have to draw the line, and decide whether or not we support this type of behaviour.
For me the line was realized with the help of American president, Donald Trump.
As we all know, President Trump is a dope. He's stumbled backwards into the most powerful position in the free world, and now he's lost. But is this any reason to publicly humiliate and degrade the man? Does this give us permission to verbally abuse his family members and friends? Is it now somehow alright to call for physical harm to be done to a child, simply because of who his father is? I personally don't believe so, but Facebook seems to have other ideas.
Anyone who has been paying attention will tell you that Facebook seems to have a personal vendetta against president Trump. A quick search will reveal hundreds if not thousands of posts insulting the president, calling for impeachment, or assassination.
I'm going to pause here for a moment to allow everyone a chance to process what i just said.
FACEBOOK IS ENDORSING THE ASSASSINATION OF THE PRESIDENT.
Despite any personal views we might have on Trump, he's still the president for at least the next 4 years. And despite how big of a dope he is, it's still not alright to call for someone's murder.
Seeing the hatred and threats made against president Trump and his supporters prompted me to look deeper into what Facebook decides is acceptable speech. What i found was astounding.
Facebook decided that it's perfectly alright to call for the murder or assault of someone, as long as they're a white male. Posting a picture of a group of African American teenagers assaulting a white man is acceptable, but a picture of Donald Trump accompanied by a quote about the national workforce requires a censor that one must click to bypass. Calling for the genocide of the white race is perfectly acceptable, but calling for an immigration suspension and reform is considered hate speech. There are entire groups dedicated to foul mouthing traditional marriage, but insult a homosexual and your account will be suspended.
Where are we going to draw the line?
I draw the line at steem. Steem has proven to be a truely open exchange of information. Not only that, but i find the people here are of a much higher class than Facebook. We discuss life, philosophy, history, self discovery and self help. We care about ourselves, our community, and our future. Our desire to form a better tomorrow was really the inspiration for the blockchain technology that hosts steem.
Not only is the Steem community of a higher caliber than Facebook, but the Steem network provides some very interesting opportunities. We have to keep in mind that Steem is in fact a cryptocurrency. One that i personally trade on the markets. The current value of Steem as i write this is about twelve cents USD [Poloniex]. Imagine what could happen to the value once more people start using the network. We're all holding steem just by having accounts. So we can all make money just by inviting our friends.
It's an amazing idea, that not only can we walk away from the censorship and intolerance of Facebook, but we can get paid to do it. We're sitting on infinite possibility here. By paying people to spread information we're not only promoting education, but we're stimulating a brand new economy. We're creating a new world of artists, philosophers, and various skilled tradesmen willing to share their experience and expertise. We can use this platform to grow together, and it's as simple as spreading the word.
So i say let's ditch Facebook. Tell your friends to ditch Facebook. Spread the word about Steem. Because it may just be a social media platform today, but there's money in the air and unlimited possibility on the horizons. There's no telling where we could be tomorrow.

I think the blame is not to be put on Facebook entirely, but on today's society as a whole. Facebook just shows the amount of morons and sheep in this world.

I do agree, though, that it makes no sense to censor certain things, just because you can call it racism, while showing other negative things, just because they are considered normal (in your example of gay and straight marriage). I feel this just endorses the use for such a word as racism.

I have ditched Facebook for Steemit aswell. I now only use Facebook to share my blog posts (advertisement). I've traded in the mindless scrolling through Facebook for the search of interesting posts on Steemit and am happy for it.

I will soon start sharing my Steemit posts on Facebook, to promote the platform (though with the amount of friends I have there, don't expect any results). It is simply too filled with advertisement and moronic posts. Facebook just makes me feel sad about today's society.
