Extreme Jogging - Le Morne Mountain - Insane views all around
Le Morne Cultural Landscape was proclaimed as a National Heritage in Jan 2006 and inscribed to the Wold Heritage List in July 2008. It is an exceptional testimony to the resistance to slavery marronage and the quest to freedom. The mountain was used as a fortress... escaped slaves climbed the risky landscape and steep rock formations to reach the plateau at the top. They converted the caves into permanent shelters and took refuge in the thick vegetation to avoid detection - I got this info from the plague at the enterence.
We climbed the mountain this morning... what stunning views of Mauritius and its beautiful sea! The final part of the climb at the top is fairly steep, but no ropes are required. We made good time up and down, which gave is time to jump into the sea before our lift came to fetch us!
