Did the crypto gurus, experts and pundits you follow ever teach you something beneficial?

in #experts6 years ago (edited)

Or did they keep the useful information as secrets to themselves?
This is a matter for thought for me too.
And it should be asked about your colleagues and "friends" in addition to the topic.
They push their promotional content, disguised advertisements and you follow them and read their content.

Did they inform you when Byteball was given for free?
Did they warn you that bittrex was about to become an exclusive club?
Who was told by anyone about bitcoin mining when it was very profitable?
Who was told by anyone that any mining of a decent currency was still very profitable?
Are these people worthy of our following?

Edit:
I found a good guy here:
https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@blockchainbob/byteball-airdrop-for-btc-holders-tonight

And I discovered that I just missed the last tiny bit of opportunity less than 24 hours before posting about it and a few hours after initially posting about it.

Due to STEEM's current 7 days feature, in the future I may have to add additions to the good guys exceptions list in the comments section, or maybe even in new thread or threads for such exceptions list purpose.

I guess the most honest form of writing crypto advise would be to simply write what one does and what one invests in, rather than what what others should do or invest in. After all, what is it worth if some guy tells you to buy into a random currency you've never heard of if he doesn't believe enough in it to do it himself?

I also remember well when I first started reading about mining about eight months ago. Everyone said it was no longer profitable. I started Monero mining two months later, and as it turns out, it was indeed profitable. I don't think this kind of misinformation is always intentional. I think people in general have a tendency to spread information without researching whether it's true.

I doubt if such writings would be honest.
And even if verified, such holdings can be created for the sake of advertisement itself, with some back door refunds/contracts.
For example I find it easy to believe that Trevonjb, Craig-Grant, CryptoNick and Carlos Matos had BTC vested in Bitconnect.

Am I sure they had? No, but I can easily believe it.

Good to know.
I thought that mining the older currencies was already past its profitability, but then while it is harder to mine a single Bitcoin, its price is also higher, and future price expectation may be taken into account.

I still believe that proof-of-work is bad, and had at least 1 thread about it less than a month ago.
I hope POW currencies will become rarer or become extinct in the future.
