Dbrain - A.I. + Blockchain (ICO Overview)

What is Dbrain?

Dbrain is an open blockchain based ecosystem that enables crowdsourced workers to label and validate label for data scientists who then use the datasets to train Neural Networks and build AI apps.

What does this really mean?

AI is becoming a huge market because of its ability to analyze large amounts of data with speed and accuracy that cannot be achieved by humans. In order for AI to provide analysis, it has to be trained with huge collections of data. Think of it this way, the more books you read about a subject the more knowledge you gain.

In order to train AI from the beginning you have to give it answers to the test, especially when the tests involve:

1. Image Classification
2. Transcribing Audio
3. Data Labeling

Luckily for Dbrain these are simple tasks for humans. Dbrain is going to create a marketplace for crowdsourced workers (similar to Amazon m-Turk or Effect.AI) to complete these tasks. Although these labeling tasks are simple, the quality of their labeling has been shown to account for 80% of the AIs success.

With the properly labeled datasets, data scientists will begin to train neural networks and create AI apps. These apps can then be used by businesses for a fee.

The Platform

Dbrain is a complete platform for design and use of AI. The platform consists of four main players as described by the whitepaper, however, a recent partnership with SONM adds a fifth player to discuss.

• Data Owners: Individuals and businesses that upload and host their data on Dbrain.
• Labelers: The crowdsourced workforce that labels datasets for DBR rewards.
• Data Scientists: Use the labeled datasets to develop and train Neural Networks for AI apps.
• Businesses: Use the AI apps to solve business problems including medical imaging, language processing, and video surveillance analysis.
• Computing Power - In partnership with SONM users can rent computing power to run AI from the Fog computing ecosystem.

How Dbrain Verifies Dataset Labeling?

Dataset labeling quality is verified using the SPOCK protocol. SPOCK stands for Subjective Proof of Crowdwork protocol. The SPOCK protocol uses multiple verifications of simple labeling tasks in order to deem them accurate. The users verifying the accuracy are called Validators.

For most tasks, SPOCK will require that the majority of crowdworkers answer the question the same way for it to be accurate. Workers that fail to label correctly will receive lower payments and lower ratings.

How are the Datasets Accessed?

Datasets in the Dbrain ecosystem are accessed through the Protocol for Indirect Controlled Access to Repository Data (PICARD). Datasets are accessed without the need for downloading onto a client computer.

Access to datasets is strictly regulated and can be rented or bought under a variety of plans including time-based, external access and full copy.

What does the Token do?

The Dbrain token, DBR, serves a single function: Payment. DBR is the only internal currency allowed on the ecosystem and is used to pay for data, and AI apps and is received by data providers, AI developers, and crowdworkers.

Why is it different?

The AI market has some competition including Effect.AI and Nebula-AI. There is enough room for all of these to succeed but it is important to look at what Dbrain does differently.

What about the Team?

The website and whitepaper do not provide a wealth of information on the team or advisors. The team is led by the CEO Dmitry Matskevich founded Flocktory an AI B2B business, which was sold for $20 million in 2017.

The core team provides only a list of names and titles but does include 13 data scientists and developers. The advisors are heavy on the venture capital front.

The Product

Dbrain currently has a working product where you can earn DBR. We tested the telegram bot and found the process easy to setup and use. All setup was directly integrated with Telegram.

In less than 5 minutes we were labeling data sets and receiving DBR for our time. The questions in our test were image recognition and took less than 2 seconds each.

We have not yet tested the web application but having any working product is a bonus when comparing to other projects.

How do I participate?

If you are interested in Dbrain you can participate in a handful of ways. At this time you can start earning DBR by using the Telegram bot or web application. When the tokens are on sale they will be able to be purchased as well.

The roadmap is ambitious as indicates that the platform will offer AI Neural Network training in Q2 2018, and the full blockchain platform with running apps and API integration by Q3 2018.

Overall

This project is entering a crowded space but it has a couple very big advantages over its competition. First, having a working product prior to their main launch is impressive. Secondly, the accessibility to work provided by the use of Telegram chatbot based work is a game changer.
