Pigeons and Doves

Parque la Paloma, or Park of the Doves is a park with a difference. TripAdvisor has it down as one of the 25 most beautiful parks in Europe. It is over 200,000 square meters and is home to not only flowers and trees, it is also home to a host of animals – pigeons, doves, parrots, birds, rabbits, peacocks, hens, roosters, goats and donkeys...

The Spanish word Paloma, means dove, and/or pigeon. In the Park of the Doves, of course, you see quite a few of doves and pigeons. Do you know that there are over 310 species of doves and pigeons? Somebody wanted to see pigeons and doves. I have dozens of pictures of them, but none turned up satisfactory. They are always on the move. I wasn't able to organize them together to get a group photograph. Anyway, here are a couple of the better ones.

There is a fountain in the park. Sometimes, they organized cultural evenings in summer.

And here you have some pigeons sunning themselves in the center of the fountain.

The Parque La Paloma reminds me of this hit song by the George Baker Selection - ‘Una Paloma Blanca’ I include the song here for your listening pleasure. Mature Steemians will remember this song. It was a big hit in the mid-seventies, and hit number 1 in the charts in many countries. It reportedly sold more than 3 million copies for the group, which at that time was considered a huge success. Jonathan King from the UK did a cover of this song, which reportedly sold more than 4 million copies. So, a popular song all round. However, the park has no relation to the song. I checked.
