On Courage
What is courage? How do you differentiate between courage, bravery and sheer recklessness?
Courage is defined as the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain without fear. It is also bravery, although we tend to think of bravery in terms of heroic deeds. Giving thought to an act and carrying it out despite knowing the risk and danger involved is courage, is bravery. But to rush into things without thinking, although some might call it courage or bravery, it is actually sheer recklessness.
Of course there are times when we do not have time on our side, when we do not have time to think things through, when we are moved to action because of the urgency of the situation. But that is another story.
The truth is, we can never be sure of our courage, until the real test present itself, until we have faced danger. One thing is certain though, the more courageous acts we do, the more courageous we become.
