I woke up with a headache this morning. It must be the jet-lag catching up with me. Or, it could be something to do with the beers and brandy consumed last night. Maybe a combination of both. Ah, the pains of being on holidays.

I am still trying to get use to my new home. Although I have been here twice, being a creature of habit and routine, there is a lot to get used to. Where the things are kept, the kitchen, the food, the environment, the weather...

Anyhow...

Benalmadena is a small town in the province of Malaga in Spain. It is located on the Costa del Sol. It is also one of the main tourist destination on Costa del Sol. It has almost 20 kilometers of coastline of sand and gravel.

Where I am at, I have the beach on one side and the ‘high street’ on the other. The beach is about fifteen minutes’ walk, and the ‘high street', the town center is about ten minutes’ walk. This area is mainly holiday apartments owned by Europeans who come here to escape the cold in Winter, or to enjoy, the sun, and sand, in Summer. Most of the people living here, are retirees and people on vacations. Hence, the pace is slow, and it is usually, very peaceful and quiet.

In the area are many little shops, restaurants, mini supermarkets and a couple of big supermarkets, all within walking distance, so that if you need to buy your daily necessities, one doesn’t have to go very far. You will also find that the prices in the shops and restaurants are competitive.

Down on the beach area are the hotels as well as service apartments, souvenir shops, bars and restaurants. This is the main tourists area and the prices are naturally higher.

Up on the ‘high street’, is the town center. The shops and restaurants here cater to tourists as well as the more affluent locals. Therefore, you will find the prices are also a bit on the higher end.

In a couple of weeks’ time, the holiday makers will start coming in. The apartments will see more occupants. The shops will see more business. This will continue into September. The peak period is July, August when the schools are out and it is the European summer holidays.

From my window, I will see more people on the road, people making their way to the beach, or tourists from the beach area going up to the high street. There will be people lugging their luggage, either arriving or leaving.

Oh yes, the place would be a lot livelier then...

These building designs, I understand has Moorish influence from years gone by.

Below the apartments are restaurants and shops selling the basic necessities.
