Malaga, the capital of the Province of Malaga, in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, Spain, is the second most populous city of Andalusia and the sixth largest in Spain. It is reportedly one of the oldest cities in the world.

Malaga is rich in history dating back to the Roman times, and is best know for its gateway to Costa del Sol, and home to the artist Pablo Picasso who now has his own muesum containing some of his personal works.

In the city of Malaga, there are many Catherals, art galleries and muesums - and shops, of course. There are many high end shops with big names. So, if you are into any of those activities, you will feel right at home. And if you are not, there are many coffee shops and eateries. You can find one in a good location and have a coffee, or a drink and watch the world go by.

I didn’t go into Malaga this trip, so there is no pictures to show. But you can look at my last year’s post on Malaga by clicking Here

So what else is in Malaga? The following are some of the nearby attractions that are worth a look when you are in Malaga.

Ronda

On my first visit to Benalmadena, two friends from Sweden came over to visit me. We rented a car and drove from Benalmadena to Ronda. The journey was about two hours.

Ronda is supposedly one of the loveliest and most historical towns of Malaga. Offering unforgettable views over the El Tajo gorge.

The Puente Nuevo, which means New Bridge in English, was actually completed in 1793 and took forty-two years to build. The bridge joins the old Moorish town and the newer, El Mercadillo parts of the city. It is quite breath taking. It is, by far, Ronda’s most famous landmark.

Gilbratar

Gibraltar is about 2 hours’ drive from Benalmadena. I had been warned that it is just 'a piece of rock', very touristic, over-rated, and expensive. Despite that, the general consensus was that it is one of those ‘must visit’ places if you are in Spain. So, I was forewarned and I was not really disappointed to discover that all the warnings were true.

Gibraltar has an interesting history, but as a tourist attraction, there was really not much to see. Just a big piece of rock and the base of which is lined with expensive souvenir shops and eateries, which led some to comment that it is a tourist trap.
Anyhow, if you are anything like me – not interested in shopping, museums, and cable cars, you can give Gibraltar a miss.

I have never been to Nerjas, Cordoba, Granada. So, I can’t say anything about them except that they are listed as places worth a visit when you are in Malaga. I include the Wikipedia links to these places so you can have a look for yourself.

Nerja is less than two hours’ drive from Benalmadena. Cordoba and Granada are a bit further. You might one to consider staying over night, to allow you to see more of these places.

Howdy sir Vincent! Great shots and interesting stuff here, like it! The Rock of Gibralter is just a big rock, got it. But the bridge is magnificent.
