The old Blacksmith Shop
This particular blacksmith shop is located in a historical Village in northern Illinois. It's a delightful place to visit and you feel like you have stepped back in time. Plus it's a great place to take pictures!
When I was growing up there was still a blacksmith shop located down at the end of Main Street. It was a dark and very mysterious place because my mom never went shopping there! But it was always quite fascinating to try to see what was going on inside that big open door when we would walk past.
Watching the blacksmith at work as we toured The Historical Village took away some of that mystery! And the sounds and the smells were the same ones that I had memories of.
I am looking forward to seeing lots of bird and animal shadows this week!

Howdy this evening Melinda! I love Blacksmith shops too. I saw one a few years ago in Ohio and it was a working shop. They sold some of the things they made there and I was amazed at the shapes and types of things they were able to make just by softening and shaping iron.
I remember buying some hand forged hooks to hang on the wall years ago at a blacksmith shop that was doing demonstrations and had things for sale. It is really an art, isn't it?
Yes Ma'am it's totally amazing and a fun job in the middle of the winter, not sure about the summer! The only ones I know of are at the tourist places like Branson, Missouri and history site places but I sure find them interesting.
I remember going to Branson in the mid-70s and going to Shepherd of the Hills Farm and Silver Dollar City. Those were the only two tourist attractions that were there at the time but I had read Harold Bell Wright Shepherd of the Hills and had heard that there was a place there commemorating the story that you could visit. I went back years later while coming home from a visit to my mom and dad's house , after they had turned charming little Branson nto a music extravaganza and couldn't get out of there fast enough. Well that's not exactly true I did go see Andy Williams while I was there and was glad that I did.
haha! Andy Williams was one of my favorites! He was just amazing. The silkiest smooth voice. I suppose Silver Dollar City is still there? You don't like the new Branson? lol.
I remember we had once an excursion of different potential jobs at school and blacksmith was one of them. I was fascinated by how precise they work. I would personally never ever try it because of the heat but it is still a valuable career and I hope that there will be many people continuing the tradition. We even have some Slovak fairy tales about blacksmiths :) They were always considered very strong as they worked with iron :)

I don't think it is a very visible career anymore. Every small town used to have a blacksmith shop that ceased to be as important when people quit using horses for transportation. But you are right there is still great value in the skill that a blacksmith has.
Really amazing :D I love this post, @melinda010100 :D The blacksmith's forge is always a place of magic in my head and I would like to visit one in real life one day! I should try to look up historical villages around my area...
