Wednesday Walk: Boat trip to Tha Phra Chan,

in #esteem5 years ago (edited)

This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. The hot weather has driven me to be on boat trip more often last month. The pier called “Tha Phra Chan” means the pier of the moon! I took the boat from Sathorn Pier on a bright sunny day. This made it irresistible to taking photos along the river.

Chinese tourists everywhere you go! Please spend a lot of money here!

I am afraid I am addicted to boat trip and I always enjoy looking at those old buildings, shaky wooden house and high rise buildings along the river bank. Several years ago, there were more big old trees and both sides looked very green. Luckily some old buildings have been preserved and so the old trees on the land.

Those old days when there were no cars, people just depended on rowing boats to go to the temples, markets and ‘shopping center’. So, most houses’ front porches opened towards a canal or river and each one would have a small landing to get on and off boats. Instead of parking their bikes or cars, they would be tying their boats by their small piers. For big foreign buildings and famous temples, their front doors or entrances always faced the river. Nowadays, everything has been flipped around! Hundreds of canals and rivers had been turned into roads where we have to experience crazy traffic jam everyday!

The building with a high tower is called Chrakrapong Palace (built in 1909) designed by the same architect who designed the British Embassy in Bangkok.

When I could see the Grand Palace, I knew I had to get off at the next pier for my walk to the shoppping arcade where the society of amulet collectors could be found.

River route is the way to go :-)

Yeah! Rivers are much better than roads!

Oh! Yes! Water is very important to me! It’s much cooler to live near a river and lakes.
Don’t forget to go to IconSiam and AsiaTique in Bangkok; and drop by in Isaan one day.
