Market Friday: having lunch at Amarin Plaza, อาหารกลางวันที่อัมรินทร์พลาซ่า

ช### This is my entry for #marketfriday hosted by the poetical and artistic @dswigle. Today I drop by to see my old friend who has a Thai sweets stall at Amarin Plaza. So, I might just as well have my vegetarian lunch in the food court on the fourth floor.

This is typical north eastern (or Isaan) dish called ‘som-tum’ or papaya salad. The cook has to pound raw sliced papaya with garlic, dried shrimps, fresh chili and sliced lemon,roasted peanuts and various ingredients together in a big wooden bowl.

This noodle stall got Michelin Star in 2018.

There are photos of the dishes and prices in front of each stall. Vendors proudly display the names and areas or provinces of their origins. In the past, we had to travel to distant locations to taste these famous street food. Now they are together in this food court.

Tourists regularly come here to enjoy delicious lunches at cheap prices. A noodle soup starts at 40 bahts or about $1.30 less than half the price of those in restaurants!

The food court at Amarin Plaza has almost three hundred street food stalls, snacks, sweets and drinks kiosks. It is best to avoid the lunch hour as hundreds of office workers from nearby skyscrapers will be descended into this food court. There are always long queues and the noise level becomes impossible to have quiet conversation.

The choices of street foods here are incredible with very high quality food at reasonable prices. The management does a good job of screening many well known street food vendors from various parts of Bangkok and nearby provinces to open small branches here.

My friend is having this special duck noodle which she says it’s the most delicious duck noodle. I notice that the vendor actually makes their fresh egg noodles themselves.

There are local dishes from each region of Thailand; northern food to southern dishes and famous Chinese vendors from the old area of Bangkok near China town. These vendors cook their food fresh at their allotted stalls. I like to see my food being cooked in front of me so I can be sure that it is clean and nicely cooked.

Seats with a view of the other shopping malls nearby: Gasorn and World Trade Center.

วันนี้เราแวะไปเยี่ยมเพื่อนเก่าที่อัมรินทร์พลาซ่า เราก็เลยแวะกินอาหารกลางวันที่นั่น ที่ชั้นสี่มีสวนอาหารที่ดีมาก แต่อย่าได้ไป
เวลาเที่ยงเด็ดขาด เพราะจะเจอกองทัพพนักงานที่ทำงานอยู่ตามตึกระฟ้าในระแวกนั้น ลงมากินข้าวกลางวันหลายร้อยคน ทำให้มีคิวยาวมาก และเสียงในห้องอาหารก็ดังอย่างกับตลาดนัด เราจึงชอบไปตอนบ่ายโมง เพื่อให้คนกลับไปทำงานกันก่อน สถานที่จึงมีความสงบเหมาะสำหรับนั่งกินข้าวกับเพื่อนๆ

เราชอบกินอาหารตามร้านแบบนี้มาก เพราะเราสามารถรู้ว่าอาหารที่ทำสะอาดและปรุงให้เราเห็นสดๆ เราก็ได้อาหารที่ร้อนและราคาถูกกว่าไปกินตามร้านอาหารหรูๆ มีร้านขายก๋วยเตี๋ยวเย็นตาโฟร้านหนึ่งที่ได้รับดาวจากมิชิลิน และมีร้านก๋วยเตี๋ยวเป็ดที่อร่อยมาก เพราะเขาทำเส้นหมี่สดทุกวัน เราชอบกินพวกเส้นมาก แต่ก็อดใจไปกินอาหารมังสวิรัติเหมือนเดิม แล้วไปต่อของหวาน เช่น นํ้าแข็งใส ไอศกรีมและชากาแฟ.
