Daily Pet Photography: friendly cats by the river, แมวและมิตรภาพของแมวที่น่ารัก

My walks along the Mae Khong River has become a familiar routine among the local villagers. The local cats and dogs have become friendly towards me.

When I have plenty of time before the sunset, I would walk to the end of the road where a small fisherman village of make shift huts dotted along the river bank. Here, some fishermen have really fierce dogs to guard their huts while they go out fishing. Some cats and kittens can be seen running under the huts. I am quite surprised that these big dogs and stray cats are on very friendly terms. They just leave each other alone; the cats could just walk past these dogs happily. The friendship between these dogs and cats makes me smile every time I see them playing around the fishermen’s huts.

I have been quite struck by these two cats of completely different colours and clans. Yet the younger black cat has adopted the bigger ginger cat as her best friend. She would follow the ginger cat everywhere. These cats are very friendly and they would just walk right up to me when I make the moew sound. In fact, the big ginger cat in my house used to belong to a fisherman’s wife. The villager told me that this ginger cat could not get along with all the cats there so she just wandered off along the river. The day I found her, she was just about four months’ old cat sitting under a mango tree in my garden. From just one stray cat, I now have five cats as Jilly had gone missing. I hope Jilly had found a nice and warm place as her new home. I continue to learn a lot about cats, their relationship and sense of loyalty.

เราชอบไปเดินเล่นริมแม่น้ำโขงก่อนพระอาทิตย์ตก ถ้ามีเวลามากเรสจะเดินไปสุดถนน เพื่อไปดูหมู่บ้านชาวประมง ที่มีกระท่อมเล็กๆเรียงรายอยู่ริมฝั่ง ที่นั่นมีสุนัขตัวใหญ่หลายตัว ที่ชาวประมงเลี้ยงไว้ช่วยเฝ้ากระท่อมตอนที่เขาออกไปตกปลากันทั้งวัน เราเดินเล่นบอยมากจนชาวบ้านจำได้ แม้แต่สุนัขและแมวแถวนั้นก็จำเราได้แล้ว เวลาไปเดินก็เหมือนไปทักทายแมวและสุนัขที่อาศัยอยู่ริมแม่น้ำ แมวและสุนัขที่นั่นเป็นเพื่อนเล่นกัน มันไม่ทะเลาะหรือไล่ทำร้ายกัน ซึ่งทำให้เราแปลกใจมาก ลูกแมวก็วิ่งเล่นไปมาอย่างสบายใจ เราประทับใจมากกับมิตรภาพระหว่างต่างเผ่าพันธ์ของสุนัขและแมวที่นั่น แล้วเจ้าลูกแมวสีดำก็ติดเพื่อนแมวสีส้มมาก มันตามแมวส้มไม่ห่างเลย

แมวที่มาอยู่ที่บ้านก็เคยอยู่ที่หมู่บ้านชาวประมงมาก่อน ชาวบ้านบอกว่ามันเข้ากับแมวที่นั่นไม่ได้ แล้วมันก็เดินหายไปตามริมแม่น้ำ จนเรามาเจอตอนที่มันเป็นลูกแมวอายุประมาณห้าเดือน จากแมวตัวเดียวเรามีแมวตอนนี้ห้าตัวที่บ้าน เพราะจิลลี่หายไปจากบ้านสองเดือนแล้วหลังจากไปทำหมันมา เราก็หวังว่ามันไปอยู่ในที่ที่มันมีความสุขและปลอดภัย เราได้เรียนรู้ถึงมิตรภาพและความสัมพันธ์ของแมวที่มีความเหนียวแน่นและภักดีต่อกัน ทำให้เราชอบแมวและเข้าใจมันมากขึ้น
