Typically, a review like this I would be posting to Tasteem.io. Since I didn't really take enough pictures for it to be a full review though, I am just going to make it a regular post on my feed.

This past week @mrsbozz and I went to a place for dinner that we used to go to quite frequently. It helps that it is just around the corner from our old house. Castaway's is your typical local bar with a twist. It is right on the Kawkawlin river, so they have an awesome outdoor seating area and they have a number of docks so you can drive your boat right up to the establishment and stop info dinner and a drink.

The main thing that keeps bringing @mrsbozz and I back to Castaway's is the cheesy bread pictured above. It comes with marinara sauce, but we usually get a side of ranch dressing to dip our slices in. They use a really thin crust for the bread and smother it with tons of cheese and butter. It comes out to the table like a fantastic plate of heaven.

About a year ago we had a surprise birthday party for @mrsbozz and I called ahead to make sure they had two orders of this deliciousness ready to to for the guests while they were waiting for us to arrive.

@mrsbozz had her usual (captain and diet) and I went with a beer they had on tap. I can't remember ever having Samuel Adams Winter Lager but it was very good. It kind of reminded me of a lighter red beer or a marzen like Oktoberfest. There was a definite spicyness to it that can probably be attributed to the cinnamon and ginger they use in the brewing process.

I had no problem drinking a couple of these before I called it quits for the night.

@mrsbozz used to get a wrap here called "The Buoy", but they stopped making that a while ago. We were trying to decide if we wanted to share a pizza to go along with our cheesy bread when I noticed they had some new flavors of wing sauce.

She knew immediately I was going to have my heart set on wings, so she went ahead and ordered a grilled chicken wrap instead.

I went ahead and ordered eight wings and they were nice enough to allow me to get half of them in one flavor and the other half in another. The ones on the right above were their spicy chili flavored. If you have ever been to Buffalo Wild Wings, think the "Asian Zing" flavor, that is pretty much what they were like.

The ones on the left were Gochujang which quite honestly I had never heard of before, but it sounded interesting. That's how I ended up with a plate of half and half. I was asking the server what the difference was between the two and @mrsbozz said "can he just get half and half?" They were more than happy to oblige.

I honestly don't know if I could pick a favorite between the two. They were both really good and had some awesome flavor. I like the spicy chili because it was familiar, but I also like the Gochujang because it was new and exciting to me.

In all it was a great dinner and we got to visit with an old friend we haven't seen in a while who met us there. I feel like Castaway's is a little on the higher end of bar food price-wise, but they have specials through the week that could probably soften your final check if you took advantage of them.

In the summer they have bike nights and jeep nights respectively. They also have an outdoor sand volleyball pit that leagues play on through the summer. On a nice summer night, this place can get packed and stay packed well into the night. They have a small dance floor and typically bring in DJ's or bands on the weekends.

If you are ever in Bay City, MI and it's a nice day, skip sitting out on the patio at Hooter's and drive down the road to Castaway's. I don't think you will be disappointed.
