Hangout Format:

This will go up at least 4 days before the BitShares Hangout. BitShares community members who post subjects to cover and bring topics of discussion are asked to do so in response to this post first. Worker Proposals are a Chief Focus in these hangouts, but other topics and projects are welcome to join. @officialfuzzy can finally pay people who have supported this powerful cryptocurrency for the past 4 years since its birth and evolution. So reply below with valuable topics, updates, info we should cover and earn upvotes from in this thread and earn a special bonus if yours are chosen!

How Much Time Per Topic?

Hangouts will be at least 45 minutes long, but depending on attendance and projects/topics to be covered may last up to 60 minutes. Given this, we will try to stay with 5-6 core topics and will fit in others where possible.

What do we Earn for Actively Participating?

Those who attend will each earn from a pool of bitshares that will be purchased with earnings from this post. They will then be given directly to you via our new guestbook that we are testing.
Fuzzy will be giving Beyondbits to community founders who attend this weekly hangout to give their own unique perspectives and expert commentary. He will also be giving them to people who give topics and information we choose to use in our hangout!

Is Any Topic Off Limits?

Yes. We reserve the right to learn from the newest trickster trolling steemit consistently searching for way to insert chaos into the equation and devise future strategies for negating these. Naturally if these efforts become ham-fisted attempts at shutting down free speech in honest conversations, the audience will hold us accountable.
But with that said....pretty much anything can be covered--even up to and including current events. However, I personally will only be voting up stories that touch the blockchain in some way shape or form and will be asking the community to downvote absolute Rubbish! ;)

Excerpt from this weeks Bitshares State of the Network Report:

  • Bitshares wallets at PoloniEX are in maintenance mode at the moment; Bitshares developers are in touch with PoloniEX to find out why this is the case and assist if required.

  • The Bitshares governance model is in full swing with 4 worker proposals currently being funded and 3 new proposed workers being voted on.

  • @lzmlam and Bitcrab have proposed a new worker proposal titled 'BTS Joint Marketing Campaign of Exchanges'. The proposal aims to work with 3 Exchanges to hold co-marketing activities to raise awareness and popularity with Chinese investors.

  • BlockchainProjectsBV has proposed a worker proposal that would see them deploy and maintain core infrastructure for the Bitshares network. The aim of this proposal is to provide core infrastructure to increase the networks redundancy and reduce its reliance on business partners.

  • @abit has proposed a core development worker proposal, which if approved will see him commit 20 hours per month for 4 months at a rate of $2000 BitUSD per month for further development of Bitshares-Core.

Excerpt from BitShares State of the Network Report for the week (by @steempower):

  • Bitshares wallets at PoloniEX are in maintenance mode at the moment; Bitshares developers are in touch with PoloniEX to find out why this is the case and assist if required.

  • Current registered wallets/accounts within the Bitshares network is 461891; an increase of 4969 wallets/accounts since last week

  • CoinCentral has done a great introduction piece titled 'What is Bitshares? The Ultimate Guide for Beginners'. The educational piece looks into the Graphene ecosystem, technical specs, MPAs, DPOS, Governance and the DEX itself. Recommend everybody check out this resource as it might be a good tool to help new users get a better understanding of the platform.

  • BlockchainProjectsBV has proposed a worker proposal that would see them deploy and maintain core infrastructure for the Bitshares network. The aim of this proposal is to provide core infrastructure to increase the networks redundancy and reduce its reliance on business partners. Core services would include a faucet, public API nodes as well as seed nodes with a focus on geographically distributed load balanced servers. The worker also proposes to work on development of Bitshares docker containers allowing for rapid deployment of nodes as well as servers for the testnet.

  • There is a lot of confusion or hype stemming from articles posted on cointelegraph and Forbes with comments such as "[Waves] is implementing new technology to enable the network to process thousands of transactions per minute and become what is claimed as the "fastest decentralized blockchain" platform in the world.". A+ for marketing! But their claims fall short (very short) of reality. Waves has claimed on their stress test they achieved "An average throughput of 2,000 txs/minute. Peak bandwidth was 17,000 txs/minute.". In relation to the quote "fastest decentralized blockchain" all I can say is that Graphene based networks such as Steem and Bitshares can process much higher rates than Waves has stated. In fact the Bitshares network was stress tested back in March 2017 on geographically distributed nodes with peak processing rates of 3,328 transactions PER SECOND (199,680 transactions per minute) more than 10x the Waves stress test results. I know this to be a fact as I was a node operator in the stresstest and look forward to contributing to the next stress test. Another interesting note is that Bitshares transactions can contain multiple operations (For example, you could include an operation to cancel an order and create a new order in a single transaction - this example is being used by trading bots that operate on the Bitshares network). The stresstest also included a component to test the amount of operations that could be processed on the network; The peak was 14,035 Operations Per Second (842,100 per minute). Bitshares has demonstrated the ability to process 3,328 TPS. You can view the Bitshares stresstest

  • The Bit Universe team have released an updated version of the BitShares Wallet & Trade mobile app (v 1.2.1.4), You can find it on the Google Play store

Sorry man, I have been stuck at work all day today - pushing 14 hour shift upgrading some core infrastructure.

Just took a break to update the post but you bet me by 5 minutes.

Trust me its fine! :D

Change to Forced Settlement for bitCNY

Suggested Duration: 20 minutes

Earlier this week, an increase in "forced settlement arbitrage" on the bitCNY-BTS market on the DEX was reducing the supply of bitCNY quickly. This reduction in the bitCNY supply was considered by many to be undesirable, and some suggested that this feature should not be available (or at least penalized) for "healthy" markets. bitcrab proposed a blockchain parameter change to the Committee in an attempt to slow down this process by increasing the penalty for force settling from the existing 1% to 5%. This proposal has already been approved by a majority of the Committee.

I would like to discuss:

(a) what is force settlement
(b) what is the force settlement penalty
(c) when it should be increased and by how much

Progress of Worker Proposal: Success of China Marketing Campaign with listings of bitAssets

Suggested Duration: 5 minutes
As part of the marketing effort that began last week, Zhaomu (@lzmlam) is soliciting feedback about a future press release that will be used by exchanges that they are contacting once those exchanges officially take on various bitAssets.

Many rumors abound about what which ones will be listing what and when but but I prefer to wait until they are official. At a minimum, this worker is developing attention.

Analysis of BTS markets over the past week

Suggested Duration: 10 minutes

Around one week ago, there began an increasing demand for BTS. Around the same time, Poloniex again suspended the withdrawals of BTS. What happened to the BTS price? The price rose and fell at the same time on different markets!

  1. Demand for BTS caused the price of BTS to rise on most markets including the DEX.

  2. I suspect that holders of BTS on Poloniex, who wanted to get out of Poloniex, chose to sell their BTS for another token that coud be withdrawn. This reduced the price of BTS on Poloniex.

  3. The feed price by witnesses is derived in part by the BTS price on markets external to the DEX. This caused the BTS feed price to fall relative to the market price on the DEX. The price fell so much that the prices crossed and then the market price for BTS was above the force settlement price.

  4. People who wanted BTS found that the least expensive BTS could be acquired by force-settling smart assets such as bitCNY (and later bitUSD). This "forced settlement arbitrage" caused a reduction in supply of bitCNY.

This is the background within which the change to Forced Settlement for bitCNY was enacted.
