Last week on "Saturday night with Zizy", we talked about How to know if she wants just sex It was a follow up to the previous week's episode on same topic but with special reference to men. Last week wasnt a very lovely outing as so many people were absent because of the football match.I understand it is football season so I guess I will have to get used to that till the world cup is over. Playing both sides is rapidly becoming trendy in contemporary relationships. This topic has often generated several arguments with both sides having strong points for and against it. People tend to have a negative view of double dates. They believe that if you are in a serious relationship, you have no business seeking someone else and if you do so then you are a serial cheat, a commitment-phobe and a liar. What they sometimes forget is that there are different types of relationship of which casual dating is one of them. Before you judge a person for double dating, understand what the relationship status is.

So many people believe they are in a relationship because of how much time they spend together and on phone. They simply assume the relationship is "monogamous" and should one of the partner discover the other person is having sex with another, they are likely to react as if they were cheated on. They lose themselves in the euphoria of the fine spent together that they have no discussion about being exclusive. Unless there has been a discussion which expressly states that neither person will date or have sec with others, you cannot shoot him/her on the foot.

Again, meeting someone new today and fixing a date three days later doesn't exactly mean that a relationship has started. You don't expect someone you recently met to expressly tell you that they are in a committed relationship. Some may be honest enough to give out that information but they will pass it across as casual dating.

Sometimes it is unplanned. You may be in a committed relationship but then you meet a new colleague at work who always compliments you or you meet an amazing company in a bus trip and you spend so much time talking and even exchange numbers and then you start to feel something you shouldn't feel because you are already in love. You feel instant electricity whenever you see them or hear their voice. A feeling that should be reserved for the person you love and even though you know the right thing is to create a distance, you just can't seem to be able to pull yourself away.

Some people double date for fear of being decieved by their partner especially after investing so much time, emotion, money and what have you? The fear of insecurity is always there because of stories we have heard. Prevention they say is better than cure. For a woman, it is not good to put all your eggs in one basket they say especially when you have reached the "forbidden"age of SINGLEHOOD.

Parents, friend and relatives can also be a strong factor in encouraging or discouraging your association with your partner. They may have someone they consider a better candidate and won't give a hoot that you are already in a committed relationship.

Although this is rampant, there are still some people who lack the courage to juggle several men/women. They see it as unethical and won't even give it a thought of the day. Such people when they are sexually involved with someone of the opposite sex, they feel morally obligated to cut themselves off from every other man or woman. This as good as it may seem limits the opportunity to meet and ideal partner. This is because when they start to detect personality traits or behaviour that makes them uncomfortable, they are more likely to stick with the person and settle for less because that is the only relationship they have.

I am in no way encouraging double dating but if he/she is not willing to define the relationship or stay committed and actually makes plans that shows there is a future in the relationship, you are free to date the entire soccer team if you so wish. Very few people tell the new person they are seeing that they plan to date others until they find Mr/Ms right or until they are ready to settle down. They want to know if they are competing with others but won't take the risk of the possibility of you loosing your interest by telling you they are dating other people.

Honesty is the cornerstone for all sincere friendship whether they be platonic or romantic. If you are in a committed relationship and it is glaring that there is a future in it, there is no need playing games. Stay committed and stick to the one you love. On the other hand, if you must double date , there are rules that must be followed;

1. Be honest about it: let your partner know that what you are in for is a casual relationship with a goal to finding to most compatible partner. They do not need to know the other person's personal details. Instead of looking like you are cheating make it open, let them be the one to decide if they are game or not.

2. Don't schedule the two of them same day: should they be game and willing to go on, you wouldn't want to be kissing one this minute and kissing the next one in few hours time. Always space out your meetings. This will give you ample time to spend with each of them and get to know them better. Remember you ain't dating for fun but with a goal.

3. Don't pressure yourself to decide. It can be quite confusing having to finally decide which person to stick with. Do not worry, nature has a way of solving that mystery for you. As you get to know them individually, you will find yourself gravitating more toward one than the other.

Double dating is fun. You may feel like the ultimate catch having two women interested in you or guys vying for your love but as intriguing as it is, so also is it exhausting. There are demerits of double dating.

1. Problem of deciding who to stick with comes up because you will like different qualities in both and this will make it difficult for you to make a decision.

2. The guilt is so real. You feel like you are hurting both of them and the thought of having to break someone's heart when you finally makes a decision alone is killing.

3. You are caught up in a web of lies having to explain where you are and why you are not answering your calls. Just pray you don't mix up their names during a romantic moment. The ridiculous fabrications will be endless.

4. You may end up the loser. Do not allow yourself to end in regret of what you could have done right. Double dating doesn't always end well.

If you fall in love quickly and romanticize and obsess about the outcome of a possible relationship, you need reality check. Keep a diary if you must double date. This will help you curb your infatuation and sentimental longings. Write down both people's desirable traits as well as their objectional behaviour. Someone may be attractive, successful and intriguing but may lack the qualities necessary to maintain a long term relationship.

DATING TIPS:

Compliment each other and often. You are there to make each other feel like your best selves, so let the genuine praise flow freely. Like their outfit? Say it. Like their hairdo? Let them know.

Please help a brother going through a trauma.
There is this lady that has really being on me for long. Eventually, we made out last month. Now she's about 4 weeks pregnant. I am not ready to father a child at this time. I m so confused and depressed. Please what can I do?? She insists on having the child but I m not ready for marriage or anything pertaining to that. Please help.
