Philophobia is the term that refers to the fear that is felt to fall in love, the fear of love. This is one of the most curious phobias since it is the phobia to be in love. This anxiety disorder can have an effect on the social and emotional life of the person who suffers it. In severe cases, the philophobe may not only avoid potential love affairs, but may stop relating to co-workers, neighbors, friends and family.

The vast majority of people assimilate to fall in love with a quite incredible experience that we can feel, but for people suffering from this disorder this can become quite a terrible situation that can cause them anxiety and a high level of stress.

Where does the fear of falling in love come from?

That must be the first question that must be asked, because it is necessary to know that it unleashes this fear of falling in love as it could be: suffering again, not finding the ideal partner, fear of a divorce among others. These are examples that may be affecting you and you should really know where your fear comes from. Although we have had a bad relationship or even this fear comes from a bad relationship of our parents or people we know we must be positive because not all relationships fail, not all men are unfaithful and all women are not infidels either. A bad relationship or a close relationship does not mean that it will define the next relationships.

How to overcome philophobia?

1. Expose to fear

Like many disorders or phobias, something like exposing ourselves to this fear can be a great way to overcome it. Remembering that many times we let our mind dominate everything and rather fear grows worse.

2. Live the present

Let the thoughts that make us remember bad situations we have had in love, because this does not allow us to live in the present. Remember that each person is different and not all relationships will be good BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT ALL RELATIONSHIPS FAIL.

3. Express your fears

Do not be afraid to express and communicate what you feel and suffer, this will make us face the situation in a better way. Making aware of our fears to another person of trust, will help us to better understand our reactions and therefore emotional stress will be reduced.

4. Go to a professional

This is a disorder that causes us anxiety caused by bad experiences, many times we do not find the solution ourselves and at that moment it is the right one to go to a professional to help us overcome this.
