"Breakfast of the merchant"
Hello! Today I want to show you my still life with gouache- "Breakfast of the merchant"
I combined items that could have been on the merchant's table in ancient times: a jug, pumpkins, an apple and a bell pepper, and bright silk fabric.
Pumpkin - the most ancient vegetable, whose homeland is Mexico, where it began to cultivate for 5 thousand years before our era.
Pumpkin pulp was roasted, baked and dried. Pumpkin seeds were eaten. From the dried pumpkins was made flour.
The ships of the Spanish conquistadors brought the pumpkin to Europe, and the small-fruited pumpkin was brought by the knights of the crusaders, who were returning from the crusades
In the Middle Ages, it was used as a component of love potions;)
Sweet pepper was introduced first to Spain and Portugal after the discovery of America, and then to other countries in Europe and the Middle East.
The first edible sweet apples appeared in the mountainous regions of Kazakhstan near the border with China.
In the Bronze Age, these fruits were already familiar to the inhabitants of the Persian Gulf. To the West, they were brought by Roman legionnaires.
Precious silks for sale were carried to Europe by merchants.

Your gouash painting looks like a water color painting.
Nice piece dear. You did well.

A beautiful painting and great information. I didn't know some of those things about pumpkins.
