Educate in Difficult Times!

In these times of generalized violence in which we live, all education must rethink its main objective that in my opinion can not be other than to recover the dignity of the people and teach to live in a collective where deprive respect for (the) other . as Fernando Savater (1999) has stated:

"The main task of humanity is to produce more humanity, the main thing is not to produce more wealth or technological development, all those things that are not otherwise, despicable, but the fundamental thing of humanity is to produce more humanity, is to produce a humanity more aware of the requirements of the human being."

That is why, education should awaken that Human Being that we all carry within whose axis of interest is not the material and ephemeral, but rather values the things that give meaning to life in a positive way and contribute to personal growth (values) and professional (education) without falling into conformism and submission.

I am convinced that society and the school (because I live it daily) are experiencing difficulties because they have lost their orientation and meaning. The practice of values is increasingly deteriorated. Today, in a world that is increasingly full of technology, the closest communication between people is often not allowed. It seems a lie sometimes we are able to say nice words through a text message, but face to face we have trouble doing it because we feel sorry for lack of habit or simply because in our schools and homes we did not see or live.

Consequently, education must face the challenge of promoting and guaranteeing the essential values for a healthy coexistence and for the practice of responsible citizenship, hence the imperative need to integrate the educational center with the family and the community, and initiate collective processes of clarification of values and authentic human and social formation.

Dear magsteem-99,
this is such a good post about values and the obligation of education that it is almost ashaming that only a few people have read it.
I love the quote of Savater - he must be a wise man. Though I have to commit that I'm too lazy to read more of his texts...
Regards, Chriddi

Thanks for your words. I firmly believe in education as a fundamental pillar for the development of society. Here my last post with reflections. I like your comments. https://steemit.com/en-us/@magsteem-99/the-school-as-an-agent-of-change-in-society
