The Best Education Systems In The World Don't Assign Homework! It's A Pointless Unfair Practice! Don't Be Another Brick In The Wall!

in #education6 years ago

I think homework at school is a tragic scam! I'm sure this post will appeal to those of you who still have to suffer studying at school. I am not against education - far from it! I am not against sport for health and team cooperation. I have so many beautiful family members who were educators.

Sadly I realize now that our education systems were set up to control and manipulate the minds of our youths - not to free their minds! Fortunately in our diverse world we have living examples which show that homework is a pointless and tyrannical exercise and unfair on our youth.

Down With Homework

An Economist study showed that Finland had the most effective educational system but interestingly assigns little or no homework for their students. Doesn't that sound amazing! A great way to learn that doesn't have kids doing any homework at nights, over the weekend or during the holidays! I love the sound of that!

It doesn't stop there in Finland. The age to begin attending school is a very reasonable 7 which is in stark contrast to France which has pledged to lower the minimum school attendance age to 3!

May studies have shown that assigning homework does not really help children at elementary school and middle school levels. I couldn't agree more. I went through the entire process of formal education and if I look back on my own time at school it seems clear to me now that they were lying to me and wasting my time!

Why Should We End Homework?

There are a number of important reasons we should end homework for the majority of our school children. Countries like Japan, Denmark, and the Czech Republic have very little homework and students outperformed their counterparts in counties with much more homework such as Greece, Thailand, and Iran.

This in itself shows homework doesn't achieve the stated goal of improving educational performance. However it is achieving an understated goal which is much more insidious as we shall see later.

Yet there are other equally important reasons to stop assigning homework:

  • There are much better things for children to do during their free time than continuing to learn the rigid curriculum they already have in school. Kids need to have the time to be kids, rest and feel free from the shackles of school.
  • Less homework means more time to discuss with your community and observe the natural world. There are many truths we can observe with our eyes and hear from our community which expose the blatant lies of our educational systems.

A rational approach to setting homework reflects a rational approach to learning, freedom and happiness.

What Is Homework? A Conspiracy Of Brainwashing The Mind!

I have covered this in other posts but the foundation of my argument comes from a deep resounding belief that our educational systems were set up to brainwash the children and feed them into an economic system all owned by a small group of people. Why else in the face of so many studies are we still assigning homework to children?

It is an extension of our education system to continue the indoctrination process after school hours. Much of our education system can be classed as down right lies.

History teachers may tell their class that it is well known that the victors write history yet they continue to assign homework on total fiction. A law student is never told the truth about law and how it controls us - they are just told how to work within the law. Economics doesn't even begin to teach the youth how money is created, distributed and controlled by a few hands to facilitate our economic slavery!

How Much Homework Do Government's Recommend?

In some parts of the world such as in Victoria, Australia the government is recommending an additional 2-3 hours of homework a night for older students and almost a whole day over the weekend. The youth have been in school all day being lied to and brainwashed but what do we really expect them to learn:

  • Socialization
  • Basic reading
  • Basic maths

Not much else I can think of. They didn't teach me any more truths than that. Homework doesn't make any sense and we should abolish it today! I have even seen homework assigned by lazy teachers which doesn't make any logical sense. The teachers are assigned the homework from a central body and clearly haven't even bothered to do the questions themselves. Disgraceful!

This post may sound very negative but that is not what I feel in my heart. I have always been an optimist and the fact that the youth have amazing resources for the truth at their disposal such as Steemit gives me a lot of hope! They are brainwashed in school but the truth is indivisible and is there for those who search for it.

Perhaps our educational system will begin to worry about this soon and start assigning more homework! Don't do your homework! 😉

The concept of homework as a child is a dreadful one, but once you go out into the real world you realise that homework isn't solely to further your education it teaches you the importance of prioritisation, meeting deadlines and researching. When you graduate primary or high school and attend college/university, you're still faced with homework only in the form of assignments which are just more complicated forms of homework.

Nobody likes doing homework and I failed school dramatically, especially in the homework department. But, as someone who works as a developer and is routinely faced with deadlines that I am obligated to meet, I think homework and assignments prepared me for the real world and without them, my motivation and expectations in meeting obligations like deadlines would be dramatically different.

At the end of the day, school primarily exists to teach people how to work and participate in a rigged economy. Showing up to school for X amount of hours Monday to Friday is what you end up doing when you go out and find a real job, you're being trained to work from the very early beginnings of your life.

I keep my work in the office once out its my time. Its important to work to live not live to work. I your having to work at home then in my view your doing too much. We need our down time and this is why we have such stressed lives and are the good little robots school brainwashed us into 💯🐒

Exactly even less time with the family unit and more time with the state's indoctrination!

Could not agree more! As I wrote in my recent series we are sapping the inquisitiveness out of our kids. When with I ex I told her boy not to do homework and tell the teachers to come to me if they ha a problem. This way of thinking has to stop we are ruining kids experience of life! 💯🐒

I'm actually teaching English in Vietnam at the moment and was asked to assign homework, after I read an article about how students here are overworked/over educated, and as you pointed out much of the extra work makes little to no sense and pupils are becoming stressed, depressed, and sometimes where they feel they aren't meeting the ridiculous academic expectations, suicidal. The classes I teach are already extra curriculum evening classes which includes weekends, I basically refuse to give then anymore homework and try to make lessons they enjoy enough that they want to be there. If I do cave into the demand to set homework I will ensure it is something that allows the pupils to relax and forget about education for a while.

Looking back to my school days we didn't get homework until high school and then it wasn't every day, just assignment work which was maybe once a week. When my daughters started school they were already giving something like 30mins or 1hr of reading a day, or something like that, in reception! The reason given was getting them used to it.

I started homeschooling when my eldest was about to turn 10, but she went to high school for just over a year when she was 12. The homework was supposedly an hour a night worth, but in order to get any sort of decent grade it was way more than that. She had dance out of school too, so would be up until midnight some nights trying to complete everything. I feel asleep on her bed one night trying to support her through it! To cut her out of school hours workload she would sneak lunch into the library and do as much as she could there in break times.

There is absolutely no reason for the level of homework they get and much of it is either repetition of what they did that day or time fillers. If they didn't grasp it in the day, then repeating isn't going to help unless the parent can teach it. If they did grasp it in the day, then it's just a practice in boredom.

The most ridiculous homework my eldest got was spelling in primary school where she had to look, cover, write and check. Which was fine, except this was repeated twice and the first time she had to individually tick each letter after checking. I used to do the ticks as she wrote so she could get it done and get to bed!

Have never forced my children into doing homework and their teachers are well aware of my thoughts on this.

''Finland had the most effective educational system'' i agree if what we are measuring as effective or education is UNESCO-driven Performance Standards (PISA) -- and not actual academic knowledge. The decline in teaching methods and curriculum content, the 3R's are largely ignored, instead we are obsessed with innovation & social engineering our children. The type of so-called education being promoted is not education. It is a system of group-oriented, collectivist, brainwashing/training in lower level skills and the necessary attitudes and values for the workforce, using the computer in conjunction with programmed learning software. This kind of learning by passes the brain and a key feature of operant conditioning, does not allow for any real thinking processes to take place.

Go back to the 3R's, get rid of calculators and computers from the classroom and teach traditional Alpha-Phonics which has not been taught in classrooms for decades.

Why do engineers and execs from Silicon Valley giants like Google, Apple, Yahoo and Hewlett-Packard send their children to schools where computers are not allowed in the classroom? In 1984 Dustin Heuston of Utah's World Institute for Computer-Assisted Teaching (WICAT) tells us why.

"We've been absolutely staggered by realising the computer has the capability to act as if it were ten of the top psychologists working with one student...You've seen the tip of the iceberg. Won't it be wonderful when the child in the smallest county in the most distant area or in the most confused urban setting can have the equivalent of the finest school in the world on that terminal and no one can get between that child and that curriculum? We have great moments coming in the history of education."

PISA rankings are the focus of Government and media across the globe and every government wants that number one spot. PISA is the baby of the OECD and UNESCO which guarantees curriculum will reflect these standards. This is why in Australia Sustainability is now a cross-curriculum priority, that's every subject including math.

NSW government just announced a review of education and stated they will ''implement David Gonski’s latest report into practice and will tailor the national education reform agenda (ACARA) to the NSW context'' Gonski report & ACARA are basically the global system every other country will/are implementing under different names. This is the reshaping and restructuring of our children into the Global Citizen with introduction of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Agenda 2030. The UN has made it clear education is central to this agenda.

“The world is changing – education must also change. Societies everywhere are undergoing deep transformation, and this calls for new forms of education to foster the competencies that societies and economies need, today and tomorrow. This means moving beyond literacy and numeracy, to focus on learning environments and new approaches to learning for greater justice, social equity and global solidarity. Education must be about learning to live on a planet under pressure. It must be about cultural literacy, on the basis of respect and equal dignity, helping weave together the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.”

Along with the SDGs parents also need to understand, democratic education and collaborative learning, educating with Neuroscience and accelerated. The following two paragraphs from the latest 140 page Gonski report should concern all.

-Develop an online and on-demand formative assessment tool, to be based on revised national curriculum learning progressions. This would help teachers monitor student progress in real time and better tailor teaching.

-Introduce a national Unique Student Identifier for all students to be used throughout schooling. This would enable the consistent tracking of students if they move between schools or systems.

A computerised, personalised student plan is called a ''learning genome''. The child’s learning style, background, & dispositions will be monitored & assessed through the entire process. Measuring student growth has nothing to do with academics and everything to do with conforming attitudes and behaviours. The ''Unique Student Identifier is 1984 and a brave new world on steroids.

"When education is beaten by training, civilisation dies." C.S. Lewis

It is the same with all the other things. It is there because we accept this. The solution is saying stop, we don't do it anymore. Who wants the best for our children? Governments or parents? Governments or the schools? Who pays the schools? That's again the problem, Money!

gerben, It's not about ''Money'' “The purpose of education and the schools is to change the thoughts, feelings and actions of students.”

That quote was from Prof Benjamin Bloom's book ''All Our Children Learning'' the father of The Taxonomy of Educational Objectives in which all teachers across the west have been trained

The conditioning of modern western society began in the 1890s with John Dewey, a psychologist, a Fabian Socialist and the ‘Father of Progressive Education.’ Dewey used the psychology developed in Leipzig by Wilhelm Wundt, and believed that through a stimulus-response approach (like Pavlov) students could be conditioned for a new social order. Dewey proclaimed that schools should condition children for the desired "social order" Teachers must stress "mutually helpful living" in order to indoctrinate children in collectivism. Schools must deemphasise facts, knowledge, and real-world skills. ''The Leipzig Connection'' one of the best and most important books ever written regarding western education will help understand the depth of the deception. This book is an easy read and can download for free

I understand, but to organize these things and to control governments you need money. We pay the governments and the big companies and give our power to them.

Those that control government certainly don't need money. We have the power in numbers but as long as we stay divided nothing will change. Divide and rule, it's been a tactic for centuries. Education is the key to everything and an educated public is not in the best interest of those pulling the strings, they understood this a long time ago. Education has been in the control of the big foundations for more than a century and the links below will show just how this has been achieved.
