What does my perfect day look like, in the ecoVillage of tomorrow? EcoTrain Question Of The Week

For any community to thrive, the ethos of the community needs to be very clear. Everyone needs to be on the same page within the community, to have the same goal. The most important thing for me is that everyone strives to be of service to the earth. To focus their lives on giving back, on leaving the planet in a better way that how they found it.

As a mother this is one of the most important things that we can show our children, in fact I strongly believe that we are all born knowing this. That we never question our place within nature, we feel the connection and the bond and because of that we nurture her as she nurtures us.

But in today's society, when our children our born they are being taught to place their trust more in others, than in themselves. They are rarely allowed to explore and discover the world for themselves, instead fear and doubt is instilled in them and that blocks their natural connection to nature and to themselves.

How we interact with our children and how we interact with one another is so important. Living an environment that pomotes self discovery and trust is a must.

With that in mind, what would My Perfect Day look like?

I like to wake up naturally along with my children, to let our bodies tell us when we need to rise. I then like to go outside and connect to the earth, to stand barefoot and stretch in the sun. I can hear a bell chime in the distance, letting me know that Tai Chi of Yoga will commence shortly, if I feel up to it I will go, I then take a walk around my own garden to see how all the plants are doing on this fine day and to pick some fruit from my garden to make a juice or a smoothie for me and my girls. Fruit that is full of vitality and that vitality is then passed onto me and my girls.

There are always lots of activities to do each day, from working in my own garden to helping in the larger communal garden. There is also bread to be made in the communal kitchen , food to be dried, herbs and fire wood to be collected. There is always help available for any job that needs to be done, be it for your own space or within the communal areas. After I have drunk my juice and spend some time with my girls checking out what they wish to do, I head over to the communal healing space to do some Tai Chai. To ease myself into my day.

Afterwards I have agreed to go foraging in the forest, one of my favourite things to do. My eldest girl heads off to the stables to help look after the horses and my youngest two want to come with me. There will be 6 of us that will head off into the woods, to collect mushrooms and medicinal herbs, our baskets at the ready and our hearts happy.

We find lots of chanterelle, wild garlic, wood sorrel, hawthorn berries and wild strawberries. We pick only want we need and always leave some to reproduce. We give thanks to the plants and the fungi for their abundance and we head back. The herbs are dropped into the healing room, where I will return later to do make some tinctures and then to the communal kitchen where we drop off the mushrooms and strawberries.

There is always the option to eat communally, but instead I go home with my two youngest to have some lunch at home. I take some freshly cooked bread with me and away we go to have some pumpkin soup that is left over from the day before. My middle child will go to the community kids space after that to meet up with her friends and learn some circus skills.

I head to the communal area to see if there is anyone who needs some help and also to see what other jobs need to be done. As I said already I will be going back to the healing room to make tinctures, but wanted to drop into the communal area in case something unexpected came up.

I spend the afternoon in the healing space with my youngest in the space next to me, playing with other children, close enough so that I can hear her and see her. There is always a space for children, no matter where you are or what you are doing. Tonight I will eat dinner communally, and maybe later I will join John as he whittles some spoons, something I have been longing to learn how to do.

Before heading to the communal area to eat, I check in on my friend who is expecting in a few weeks, I will be her Doula, so I visit her regularly to make sure that she has everything she needs and feels happy and secure. Plus I have her mother blessing to arrange.

The evening always ends with a fire and some music, the chance to come together and give thanks for our day, for the abundance in our lives, to celebrate life and one another. When I arrive there are some people singing, I recognize the song so join in, my girls are are happy and content, bellies full and surrounded by friends.

My perfect day ends outside under the stars, with my community our voices filling the air with music and song , as we express our gratitude for all that we have.

Mmm yeah! That really sounds pretty perfect, my kinda perfect day, right up my street! Xx

yes indeed Alex, I hope to get to spend some days with you in the future xxx

I love the idea of wildcrafting foods and herbs... especially that which I love (mushrooms!) LOL, I’m sure I was a hobbit in a past lifetime.

It’s a funny thing about Tai Chi... I can’t just get up and do it as a morning practice, same time every morning, before I go to work. Which is unfortunate now that I start a lot earlier than I used to.

I always could only do my practice around the 11am time. It’s only been the last year or so where I’m no longer able to do that because of my work commitments. I tried doing it as soon as I get up, but it’s just not there.

My perfect day would be to not have to start work until after noon, so I could luxuriate in the morning and ease into the day — I’m always more productive that way!
😊🙏🏽☯️

thank you and yeah to not start working until after noon, I am all for easing our way into the day, we have to make the most of our time and take the time to savour each moment x

Oh, such a relaxed day, though totally productive, but in such a mellow way! I love how you walk slowly to get further, while enjoying each step. Though that may also have to do with being surrounded by an ecovillage. :-)

thanks @stortebeker, walking slower to move forward that sounds perfect to me, xxx
