Nine years ago, precisely during the 2010 Clean Up the World Weekend in September, we launched our pioneer project, Beautiful Clean Green Schools at Gratitude Bilingual Nursery and Primary School in Mile 3 Nkwen, Bamenda - North West Region of Cameroon.

You can learn more about the project here: https://steemit.com/steemiteducation/@thegreens/the-story-of-the-greens-in-2010-thegreens-was-founded-planted-1000-trees-and-educated-300-young-people-via-beautiful-clean-green

Today i was truly amazed and inspired with how big the trees and flowers had grown. It was really inspiring to see the impact of your work from nine years ago and sometimes i wish i had the knowledge i have today, nine years ago. If i did, we would have had a forests of over 10,000ha with trees. However, i am glad and proud that we have 1000ha of afromontane forests under our custody.
Below are some images of of work in 2010:

I took these pictures of Gratitude Bilingual Nursery and Primary School today when i was doing a walk around the community. This is the impact of our work, nine years ago.

I (@mr-greens) spoke to some of the teachers of the institution who were there with us nine years ago and they told me some of the impacts and benefits of our work as follows;

  • The trees and flowers have improved birdlife and attracted a lot of bees around the school campus
  • The trees and flowers have really beautified their school campus and also attracted more parents to send their children to their school, hence improved pupil enrolment.
  • The trees and flowers serve as wind brakes during the dry season
  • The trees and flowers have greatly assisted them in the Science and Nature Studies as teaching aids
  • People from around the community have propagated the flowers and some have harvested the tree branches for medicine.

The benefits were really inspiring and amazing and we are planing to do a video documentary of this wherein the teachers who were there in 2010 will share their stories as well as some pupils and the management of the institution.

Today, my hope for change increased and i am motivated to do more. I just wish to end by saying:
"The best time to plant a tree that you failed to plant yesteryears is NOW. The best time to plant a tree that you wish to plant in the future is NOW.
The best time to plant a tree is NOW"

Thanks for the support. This is amazing

It seems the world is turning away from fear based hate and beginning to make it a better place to live...

Yep. We must create a shift in paradigm to make the world a better place.
We must conquer our fears if we want to create the change we seek.

Thanks for your post. The work you do is wonderful.

The little boy holding the sign that's almost bigger than he is in the first picture, helps that picture be a really cute one! The trees and flowers you planted has had such dramatic and wonderful benefits. Great job!

Awww🥰. Thanks for the words of encouragement

Inspirational to see what the youth is capable of doing helping the world clean up in more ways than one. Well done with sharing past and present photographs, expressing the change planting has made to a community.

Anything can be achieved when everyone works together @thegreens

@tipu curate

Together, we can change the world ❤️

This is a great initiative. Congratulations of your achievements. This is the kind of model children need to become good people and good/responsible citizens

Thanks for the inspiring words and even the children, when they see their work, they are inspired and proud they were a part of this initiative

And they should be. When we have children becoming zombies with video games and smart phones, that a young kid finds working the earth attractive and rewarding is more than an achievement
