Once I had begun to live a more consciously aware or mindful life I recognized when thoughts or emotions would be arising and saw them for just that - thoughts and emotions.

If I don't get caught up in them, then they don't control my actions or my well being.

I try to keep an equanimous view on things as much as I can (note: I did say try, for it is not easy to do, especially if you are prone to getting caught up in the moment.)

I've learned to control my anger by either changing it to love or moving away from the source of my anger. Same with frustration - instead of banging my head against the wall when something isn't working, I simply take a break, then I can come back refreshed and perhaps see things in a different way. Then I am ready to get back at it.

Sadness, which I don't seem to feel very often (more when I see road kill or read about something sad in an article or book), I may vocalize my sadness and let a few tears flow then I move on. But for things like grief it is a whole process that I respect in myself and I allow myself to go through that process.

I like to move more towards peace and joy!

My occupation involves working with young kids and it's important that I can remain calm and patient, feeling compassion for their situations, helping them develop towards their greatest potential, keeping their welfare in mind.

Also I know it's important to take proper care of myself so I'm not grumpy from lack of sleep and I keep well nourished so I have the energy to move through my day.

All that being said, there is a part of me which wonders if I am missing something. These are the things that I am conscious of but is there more that I am not even aware of. Cause -hey! You don't know what you don't know.

Astrologically speaking I am lacking in the water signs in my chart. These are the more emotional signs.

Also I've had trouble expressing my emotions which seems to be a weak point. What if I were stronger in that area - would my life be different?

It will be interesting to see what others write on this subject and heck! I may find a part of me I was totally unaware of!

Some seem better able to rationally adjust to their emotions than others, meaning that for some emotions do control them. However, I recall a story about a person who had a stroke that eliminated his emotions--he had trouble making even simple decisions, such as about which restaurant to go to. We can logically consider a lot of factors, but even after that the ultimate decision may come down to how you feel about your options.

H-m-m! Good point about the importance of our emotions. I never considered that and we do go by how we feel and then there is our gut feelings that often get ignored but probably should get listened to more.

Definitely knowing how to channel correctly or trying to, makes a giant change in our lives, and helps us stay healthier.

My way of handling things is to never personalize anything. I am always on the outside looking in. This is why I can help those that are in distress, especially amongst the poor. A doctor friend told me how he copes, even with the worst of cases. Never personalize.

Good tip! For how often do we get caught up in ourselves and end up defensive or something, rendering us unable to see things clearly or as in your case able to reach out and help others.

I have learned a little bit to deal with my emotions and I find that it's better to divert myself from situations rather than being so emotional. Yes still now I am learning to deal with it..

Yes, that was a big thing for me with my anger to be able to move away from the source instead of having it escalate or having it seeth inside of me.

Very interesting write up. Trying to work of reforming or reshaping. Changing the energy or channeling the output. It’s been something that i’m trying to be mindful about. Also just not only sitting, but putting my knee on the floor, changing positions a lot and trying to do something different. Out of the ordinary. This resonates with me a lot. I had a phase about a month ago, when listening to certain people, i’d start getting very emotional and moved. I had tears of joy or happiness and it made me feel so alive. It was also during the beginning of our meditation sessions.

I had forgotten about how people can move us and influence us. Glad it came about from our meditation group for you - such a wonderful group of people! That is another thing of who we listen to or spend time with, how they can shape our lives.

I meant your approach to the natural flow and going with it. This really sticks with me. Helps me to see things a different way. Been trying to change habits in just seating positions, shoes i wear etc.. Now im gonna try going with the flow 😊

TRUST that part of you that wonders if you might be missing something - it KNOWS. Ask your subconscious as you drift to sleep the bring you ideas and inspiration or what is missing and how to reach-find-own-claim what you need to feel really whole and content with who you are.
