Emotions the very nature of my existence.
I feel in general Emotions sometimes come as storms and sometimes a light breeze....

It has become a habit for us to live in Emotions all the time, We want to keep reacting or feeling something all the time. But there are different ways people deal with it. Some express it out very boldly and some just bury them within and there are very few people I have seen who live out of this window of emotions

For me what does owning my emotions mean?
Sometimes people tell me I am a very cold person and its just because they dont find me reacting to extremes of situations.
So does this mean I am like that?
No it's not that I do not have them, it's just that I like to look at every situation very objectively be it a situation of happiness or sadness.
The other thing is as a healer and counsellor I have many people coming to me with their problems and when I look at it from the other side I see things with clarity, as to what is the root cause of it and that helps me manage my life from their learnings.

But to be very honest I was not always like this, there was a time when I was one bundle of emotions, reacting to anything and everything even if it did not involve me, as if it is happening to me. Reactions were instant, in split seconds I would be in a fury, or end up crying, etc...
Crying was my best.....hahaha... I did not do it consciously it just used to happen, may be because of all the past experiences which I kept on connecting with every situation.

This is what happens most of the time, when any situation occurs our subconscious mind immediately relates to the past experience and give a reaction.

We are born with the 5 senses which are a part of us and the function of these senses is to give us different emotions. But now where the problem lies is what is a so called part of us, we have become a part of it. So let me elaborate further.

We are all meant to go through experiences of life by going through various situations of life, so we are meant to live these experiences. Now since they are just experiences they are also meant to be in our control. But here we are getting into a reverse zone. The so called experiences of life have started controlling us in the form of emotions.

There is a co relation between our life experiences and what we think, speak, write and observe. This means that if we feel we are in pain we will only get more pain in life and so we will act, speak, thinks etc also painfully and we continue to keep multiplying these emotions. If we want to bring in change it's just not by positive thinking which everyone keeps talking about but it is about creating more of positive life experiences.

To give an example let's talk about fights.
A fight leaves behind a bad flavor or bad air in the relationship and a spur of not very good emotions, over a period of time the bad air multiplies and creates a whole stinky environment leading to a relationship of fear, anxiety and anger. If we are able however to clear the bad air after every fight, leaving it behind....by the attitude of forgive and forget then every fight becomes an isolated incident, and all walk away with a learning and the relationship remains in flavor.

It's better to not focus on the action or thought rather focus on the experience and try to change the experience then the rest of actions, thoughts, feelings, emotions will fall in line automatically.

The whole experience of life is made outward. something happens you feel happy, something doesn't happen you feel sad. All our emotions dependent on external factors.

It is not good to be over emotional, it depicts the instability in the personality of the person but the worst is to bury the emotions within. If we don't release we can end up with serious health issues. There are many such cases like this who come to me, specially man cause they feel being emotional means falling weak, but that's not the case. Emotions need to be expressed in the right proportion at the right time.

For me owning my emotions means, having a complete control over myself and to not start connecting dots for every situation. If I do not cry does not mean I am not sad or if I don't laugh out loud does not mean I am not happy.

Emotions are good because that's what differentiates we human from the rest but as we say anything in excess is not good for health and so are our emotions.

I believe excessive emotions has a very unique way of clouding ones judgement.I think emotions despite being the very difference between humanity and the rest,is somehow the fault in our stars

Yes, the emotions within us sets us apart, but in a good way or not is a question for sure

Emotions work in two ways and those are Expressive and Silent, sometimes we express our emotions and no matter what we face and we express because it really heal us whatever we hold for that particular moment and after few moments we can come out of that phase. In case of silent we literally fill ourselves with those thoughts over and over and it convert into depressive thoughts and while thinking all the time we move into phase of silence and this emotional state is really difficult to handle.

In life we have to find an channel for every situation and this means, whenever our emotional state of mind changes we have to move towards that positive channel because that channel will help us to come out of these depressive thoughts. So being emotional is not bad because we are emotional beings.

If I have to select between the 2 I will any day select the expressive emotions over the silent ones, cause silent ones can rip us apart from within as rightly said by you.

Thanks @nainaztengra a really great Post. I love studying behavior and psychology. And you are so right. Changing experiences along with changing to more positive thinking ...well when you get down to the biology of it it has to do with forming new neural pathways.

And as you get older it's tough to form new ones. We want to stay with those neural pathways that is of the least resistance and easiest route to go.

That's why we choose to stay in those feelings and emotions of intense pain that is attributed to situations and events that occurred in the past.

I have been working on my ownself lately. Trying to break those old Pathways and form new ones.It's not easy but with effort you can do that...and the end result being that you can actually change the bio-chemical and physical structures of your Brain.
