China is now in joint second place for car exports

This is down to electric cars, where China has developed a speciality. Companies like BYD have more than 60 different versions of EV and plug-in hybrid cars. Smaller companies like Nio, Xpeng and Li Auto also sell a lot of electric vehicles in China and the non-western world.

Finally, the Tesla gigafactory in Shanghai started producing Teslas in Jan 2021, and exports most of it's cars to Europe.
