Amazing places on the Earth #12
Victoria Falls
Victoria, or Mosi-oa-Tunya the name given by indigenous people is a cascade in the southern Africa on the Zambezi River at the Zambia-Zimbabwe border.
It is believed that the first European who saw the Victoria Falls was David Livingstone, a Scottish missionary and explorer. Livingstone called his discovery in honor of Queen Victoria, but the indigenous name continues to be used by locals.
The waterfall of 1,707 meters is the tenth largest cascade in the world and occupies the seventh after the annual water flow. Thus, it can undoubtedly be called one of the largest waterfalls in the world.
Cedar Alley | Nikko
This alley in the Japanese city of Nikko, stretches over a length of 37 km lined on each side with about 1,300 cedar trees known as Sugi (Japanese Cedar). The street is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest alley in the world surrounded by trees that was created about 400 years ago.
The trees were planted for 20 years from 1625 as access to Nikko's Toshogu Sintoist temple, by Matsudaira Masatsuna, a feudal who served Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Tokugawa Shogun.
After Tokugawa's death in 1616, Matsudaira Masatsuna pledged to build the Nikko Toshogu temple, and began planting Japanese cedar trees along the main streets leading to Nikko.
It is estimated that about 200,000 cedars were planted on this occasion.
Machu Picchu
The enigmatic lost city of Machu Picchu is also the most famous archaeological site in South America. Even so far, Machu Picchu has not revealed all his mysteries.
Among the most important attractions are the Sun Temple and the Sacred Market where you can admire beautiful views over the Urubamba River valley.
