Hark! The Herald Angels Sing is a Christmas carol that first appeared in 1739 in the collection Hymns and Sacred Poems. The popular version is the result of alterations by various hands, notably by Wesley's co-worker George Whitefield who changed the opening couplet to the familiar one, and by Felix Mendelssohn, whose melody was used for the lyrics. In 1840—a hundred years after the publication of Hymns and Sacred Poems—Mendelssohn composed a cantata to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's invention of the printing press, and it is music from this cantata, adapted by the English musician William H. Cummings to fit the lyrics of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, that propels the carol known today

這首廣受基督徒所喜愛，並且橫跨聖俗普受歡迎的耶誕歌曲「Hark！The Herald Angels Sing」，作者查理衛斯理〈Charles Wesley, 1708-1788〉是衛理公會〈或稱循道會〉的創立人，一生寫了六千多首的聖詩，這首可說是其作品之中最為流傳的代表作。

這首描述天使傳報基督耶穌降生大喜訊息的詩歌，發表於1739年，之後它並沒有固定的曲調，直到1855年，經由Dr.Cunmmings從德國有名的音樂家孟德爾頌之作品Festgesang 中，摘用其中的一段作為該詩曲調，後來的人才有了比較統一的唱法。因此目前所採用的通用調便稱為孟德爾頌〈Mendelssohn〉了。這首詩歌中譯名「新生王歌」，但另有數個不同中譯版本。
