Coming Undone
This video is for anyone who has ever felt jealous of my looks when seeing my Old Hollywood inspired self portraits. I know it’s easy to look at someone on the internet and think it’s so unfair that they look amazing and their life is perfect, even when you know it is not reality. When you put the perfect, glossed and crafted version of yourself on the internet on a regular basis, some might actually think it is the real you.
I’m taking off all the glamour, post Fuck It! -shoot, in this video with very bad lighting, a great contrast to what you see in my pictures; a made up version of me in good light, a carefully composed pose and Photoshop to top it off. I suffer from acne, which is my biggest insecurity, but I feel a bit more confident showing you that now because it is actually getting better, even though it might not look it here. It’s a long process and I will be left with scars, but it is what it is, I’m dealing with it.
I must admit, it is really addicting to doll myself up to this gorgeous character and one has to be careful not to get too used to it. If you do it too often, the real you will feel very dull and depressing. Sure I would love to look like an Old Hollywood film star every day, there is great power in that, but it’s an unattainable dream.
It is an art form, it is an illusion, I want you to know that, and I want to remember it myself too. I ain’t that special.

This is more powerful than fancy pics :-) I love it. I love the whole movement actually of stars or social media sharing the effort behind the 'perfect pic'. A nice antidote against all the photoshop brushing and all those 'face tune' apps or heavy snapchat filter :-/

Man, I love this. It takes a lot of courage to share something like this. I mean, I know how self-conscious I am about how I look after taking the make-up off and I don't think I'd dare share that with the world.
Honestly, I must say I really admire your make-up skills, because you hide everything so well (not that there's much to hide, but you know what I mean). I always end up looking like a pancake with blotchy bits :))

Thank you darling. We all want to be perfect and beautiful but I just figured that what the hell, a little reality check is not gonna hurt me. I do have some makeup skills and I do have a lot to hide, but no matter the skills, you can only hide colour, and not texture. I always have peeling (from retin-a), scabs, scars and all that shit, which might not be that visible in here but it sure as hell is on real life.
Hmm I think I've tried retin-a, though not sure. It's one of those products that dries the skin a fuckton, isn't it?
Exactly why it's impressive to share this. I mean, most people would just be glad to get away with them and never reveal the reality.

It doesn't actually dry the skin but increased the cell turnover and collagen production, the skin kind of sloths off in thin layers, and better skin comes from under it, yay! Retin-a is a topical vitamin A, but then there is accutane that everyone talks about, it's basically the same thing but a lot more hard core taken as pills of course.
Ah i see. Yeah, I have a friend who's using accutane, but I don't know...I've heard some pretty gruesome stories about that one, so staying away.
Hmm must've gotten products mixed up then. This retin-a sounds promising..

It works for most people, but some get horrible side-effects, so that is why I opted for the topical, as the second to last option to cure acne. I use it a few times a week overnight and if I feel like my skin is getting too sensitive, I can easily take a week off. Highly recommend at least doing a bit of research for it to see if it might be helpful for you too.

In all seriousness though, thank you for sharing. Acne is a bitch, I had it pretty bad as a teen and still have the greasy T going on at times. I'm glad it's getting better for you!

Votre vidéo me rappelle un reportage télé que j'ai vu en France montrant un artiste russe, je crois, qui s'était donné pour mission de rendre leur dignité à des femmes sans domiciles en les maquillant gratuitement afin de leur redonner un peu de confiance en elle et qu'elles retrouvent dans l'expression de leur féminité un peu de la dignité qu'elles pensaient avoir perdu.
Bien sûr, l'idée n'est pas de ne résoudre, dans leur problème, que l'apparence mais une aide pour retrouver l'estime de soi est un bon début.
Désolé ! Je t'écris encore en français mais je n'ai un niveau d'anglais suffisant pour exprimer correctement ma pensée : j'espère que Google traduction ne modifiera pas trop ce que je veux exprimer!

It's a good thing to make these making of videos. It's easier as a viewer to appreciate the effort you put in to make your self-portraits.
