DtubeDance // Good for You by Selena Gomez - Freestyle Ballet/Modern Dance

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemit Friends!

The other day I posted my first dance video on Dtube of me an a friend doing West Coast Swing. This style is my main dance focus these days, but ballet is my roots. Growing up, all I really cared about was when my next ballet class would be! Ballet provided the base of knowledge for all of my other dance ventures and it is still so dear to my heart.

Freestyle Dancing

This dance is not exactly ballet - although you can see my movement is heavily influenced by it's principles. This dance really ended up being a mix of ballet and modern styles.

This is a freestyle dance in the sense that it is completely unchoreographed. I just turned on the music and let my body move to the music.

This was filmed in my home dance studio. AKA the extra space in my large bedroom. It's so weird, I live in a pretty small apartment, and for some reason the bedroom is almost as big as the living room. Either way, i'm just grateful to have hardwood floors. It is much better for dancing than carpet!

Get out of your Comfort Zone

I feel really comfortable dancing partner dances like west coast swing... but I have never really shared my "solo dancing" with anyone. Probably because it usually just happens in my apartment. I never really thought it would be good enough to share... especially because it doesn't necessarily follow an exact style of dance.

I decided to give it a try though and share with you all today. No one ever regrets doing something that pushes them out of their comfort zone. By embracing the vulnerability and just going for it, it really does help one to improve.

Always be Improving

What is one of the best ways to improve at any activity or skill? Practice... lots of practice. There is something about posting something publicially that pushes me to a different level. If I just practice alone in my apartment, I don't necessarily have a lot of incentive to keep going or improve. Accountability is key for me and so by posting this, it forces me to take a hard look at where I'm at and where I want to improve.

I hope to continue posting videos like this. Not only because it will push me to keep improving, but it will give me a timeline to look back on and see my progress.

I hope this post encourages you to get OUT of your comfort zone and do something that scares you!

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate you taking the time to watch. <3

That's great!
West Coast is fun to dance.
I am a zouk dancer and, if you allow me, I recommend you to try. Is a very beautiful and detailed dance. Did you know zouk?

You dance zouk?!? That is seriously so cool. I LOVE zouk, even though I don’t really know how to dance it. I have to drive a few hours for the closest zouk venue, and so I just haven’t made it a priority. I think it is such a beautiful dance... almost like poetry in motion.

I do practice head tilts on my spins though so I can give my West Coast Swing a zouk look when it fits the song.

Thanks for commenting. It’s always nice to meet another dancer!!

Yes, I do dance zouk and I live in the heart of this beauty! Literally there are dozens of schools near me and some of the best dancers of the world.
I had some lessons with Paloma Alves (search on youtube if you don't know her!).
It's so cool that you mix some zouk with your WCS.
Thanks for your reply! I will be waiting for more videos of you.
Keep your good work!

Wow what dance steps from the beautiful ukelele queen, I mean being a DJ isn't stopping you from doing dance moves, my those steps are pretty amazing,

Oooh I I think you just made my night by calling me the ukulele queen! Hehe

I’m so glad you enjoyed the dance post! ❤️

Of course you are, the instrument hadn't seen mastery like I saw you do with it, I'm your ardent fan, I love art, I love music, and you are a true definition of these @coruscate

And for starters it's early morning here
😂😂😂😂😂

Haha that’s what I love about steemit! We can get to know people from all over the world. 😊

Thank you for all of your support!

I enjoyed watching your dance :)
I've started to learn dancing about 7 months ago, and i will never regret it.
I envy all the dancers who master this smooth movement, that is extremely hard for me.

I can agree 100% that going out of the comfort zone and perform for example in front of a crowd of friends challange and improve a lot.
I mean honestly i dont want my dance look shitty, so i HAVE to practice a lot when i know i will perform in near future.
This saturday it will happen again. Me and my best friend will most likely perform in front of mainly strangers. That will be frightening i assume Oo

Anyway have a great week and keep improving シ

That’s so cool that you’ve been learning how to dance!! What style are you learning?

Learning how to do certain dances and have good body movement can take a LOT of time and effort... but it is so worth it. I feel like learning to dance is like learning to ride a bike. It takes a while, but then you’ll always have that skill.

Good luck performing this Saturday!

Thank you, honestly i think it was one of my best decisions to start ❢
I started with learning basic cutting shapes moves to a point it was good enough to impress people at a festival. Then i switched very fast to start something new. My best friend is really into KPOP, mainly bts and loved the dances they do in their videos. He has already learned some choreos, so i asked him one day if we want to learn one dance together (he had the opportunity to go in a real dancing room with mirrors once a week).
So we started with it and at the moment we train on finish the second dance :)

Yeah, i want to ride the bike hehe. I think it's still a long road to go, but i love it :)
I notice that i start to have like a different feeling in interactions with others, a way more confident me etc. since i've started to dance. I wonder, have you noticed the same?

When did you start to dance? i think i might have red it somewhere but i'm not sure ^^
Do you have steemit.chat?☻
