🎨 There's Gnome Place Like Home - Handmade Card Illustration [Timelapse Video]

This week's Steemit Art Explosion invites us to create original artworks in the theme of cryptozoology (the study of folklore creatures). It's the first time I've seen the Art Explosion contest introduction, and it really speaks to me, because I've always appreciated Steemit as a platform for creative expression. I really appreciate the invitation to imagine the wonderful unicorns, fairies, and and dragons out there.
The Inspiration
For my first entry into this contest, I chose the gnomes as my source of inspiration. Now I hope you'll bear with me, knowing that the gnomes hardly qualify as cryptozoological because of course we know they truly do exist. :) That said, I'm grateful for the propulsion to create a handmade card featuring the gnome, for my auntie's birthday.

The Story
My auntie's name is Stephanie Fine Roughton. She is a person whose life I treasure deeply. I admire her gnome-like qualities, including the fact that she is a great caretaker of the earth, as well as being a protector of the fire, air, and water. She is the mother of three incredible kids. She is an absolutely precious person, so beautiful inside and out. She's one of the key people who helped me to find my place of belonging in this world, and I feel perfectly at home with her.
The backside looks like this, just going with the flow and doodling, letting the creative spirit guide my hands. I repeated the shapes of the heart, peace sign, and ichthus symbol, reminiscent of my auntie.

The Art Explosion

Yay, thank you. Feels fitting for my auntie. Her smile is so bright and cheerful, she must some have gnome ancestry in her.
