i Agree with you, sometimes what i see is people keep upvoting to us and supporting us without following is , and the most important things that's i see is support people with your upvotes and comment to them plus make some friendships , those will be you're friends and always support you but they are not following you....what do you think ?
Different people follow for different reasons. I choose my followers, not so much as a way of showing support, but for selecting, what i want to see in my feed.

Seriously though I agree with you 100% my man. I have had a long Manuel curation path almost since day 1 since I have been here. It's a great way for visibility and also just adds to the
whole multi media experience and the Value within that.
For instance, to me I would rather watch a good episode of @bobaphet 's vlog post and interact and just have a ball in the Comment section rather than watch Americas Got Talent on the TV.
See where Iam coming from ?? . We can find so much value in Dtube and quality curating in so many ways

Definitely, quality curation does it, it may not in some situations though but I've learnt a lot through this.

Right now the number of followers does not increase rapidly because the steem blockchain has only 60k active accounts on average. That why at this stage people create engagement and communauty to help each other.

Absolutely, this is a great method even though I feel this method is effective when one has got a good amount of SP to be able give out meaningful votes as well as deal with Resource Credit.
Yes, it's true, that that is a motivator for some, however, if your comments are meaningul, then that is the reason that people will follow you, not because of your SP.
